The roads aren't icy. I've been driving around a bit today. Tonight they could be after it goes below freezing.

Not many gas stations open, so better drive 100 mph to save fuel.

And use your flashers.

yep. i drove in it last night during rush hour around as many stupid mexican drivers without insurance as one could ever expect to see at one time. no issues.

the most dangerous part is the people. normal traffic speed variance is probably 10 mph. now people are doing 10mph or they are doing 50mph. makes for a dangerous scenario.

It's safe until we drop below freezing tonight. The roads arent going to dry out before the freeze.

I'd wouldn't be out past 6 tonight unless you have to be. Black ice is going to be a thing. There will be enough snow left to cool is off fast tonight.

In all likelihood, yes. Just drive a bit slower and give a little more space between you and the car in front of you and you'll be fine.

Going by the online forecasts it's not supposed to go below freezing till 11 PM tonight. I don't know much about black ice being that I'm from this far south. But I would figure it would take a few hours of sub-32 degree temperatures for that to form. Is that correct or incorrect? Any armchair meteorologists care to weigh in?

I would say if you have never driven when it's icy, don't start now. Stay home and reduce the amount of terrible (aka Louisiana) drivers on the road

It's not bad now. Roads are not super slick because nothing is frozen over. Later tonight will be a different story.

Takes some time, but depends on the temperature drop. Those places with snow on the ground will rapidly drop below freezing as the cloud cover clears. Ice will be a problem quicker than many expect because all of our predictions had us topping out at 38, not the 35 we're actually sitting on.

We're only getting to 35 today.

Nope. The standing water is already stupid cold. It won't take long at all for it to freeze once the air hits 32.

I'm going to sit my stupid arse on my couch and play video games and eat gumbo once the sun sets.

This. Sounds like the perfect reason to avoid driving today/tonight unless you absolutely have to.

The problem is not the snow. The problem is all the fricking assholes on their phones filming their drive in the snow

Why have I seen so many people with their hazards on today? What does that let others know?

It's going to be worse tomorrow morning than it is right now. All of today's precipitation will be frozen in the a.m. That's going to be an adventure for anyone driving around.
