eta: Maybe 40 fall but 12 die? I remember 40. A ranger told me that. He said it takes days to reach the victims and they'll either be dead or they won't. Or something like that.

12 die there annually. Only 2-3 die from falling, the rest from other normal reasons.

About 4.5 million people visit the Grand Canyon each year, and an average of 12 people die there annually, according to park statistics. The deaths can be attributed to anything from natural causes, medical issues and suicide to heat, drowning and traffic crashes. An average two to three deaths per year are from falls over the rim, Shedlowski said.

I find it surprising that a German did this. Germans are known to be well-behaved, stoic rule-followers.

Really? Germans are some of the most a-hole people on the planet. Super negative, in my experiences.

Hell, I've died there 3 or 4 times from heat exhaustion myself.

So what are you supposed to do if the lion charges at you? Stay still? What will the guide do? Kill it with his gun? Why even go on a walking Safari like that where you could end up becoming some wild animal's meal? Why not just go in a Jeep or a Land Rover or something? I don't get it.
