Actually, they don't represent the school. We don't even know if they were on campus.
The fraternity at the national level, sure. But to have schools policing speech is a dangerous road.

Whoa, damn.
Party's over, SAE!
I will never understand how someone thinks you can say that kind of thing and not get destroyed in the court of public opinion. Gotta say, they well deserve it for this.

LOL. This is the dumbest shite I have ever heard. Nobody will remeber this kids name after the end of this week and honestly anybody in the real world isn't on twitter following this stupid shite. The kid will be perfectly fine.
Google is forever. That shite will follow him to every job interview for the next 20 years. At minimum he'll have to do some fancy 'splainin why he's not the same guy he was then.

Not anymore, they don't.

Students as INDIVIDUALS can get into trouble for these kind of acts. I know we had an honor code at TCU (not BYU type strict...but still). What makes you think they have no jurisdiction over this?

If they do anything on behalf of the school or get help from the school the represent the school in some form.

So every time a person is hired in the U.S. their name is googled? None of my employers google the names of the people their hiring. They actually have work to do as opposed to sitting around googling every applicant that walks through the door to see if they made a few racist comments at their frat party at OU

I don't like when a university engaged in speech enforcement. It is a dangerous road to have people determine what and what not is acceptable.
If a group of black students on campus were to user the same word... Should they recurve the same penalty?

Let's see. They are students at the school and their organization resides in a house on the campus and which is probably owned by the school. I'd say they represent the school

Too many thin-skinned people in this country.

That depends what kind of work you do. If this kid wants a job which requires security clearance he can forget about it

Googling a perspective hire is a pretty normal thing in 2015. Employers will certainly look for you in social media.

The Today show just told the story and showed the video. Blurred the faces and didn't say specifically what we said, just mentioned in general about being shut down.

You're dealing in a hypothetical.
This SAE thing actually happened. Show me some video of a black frat chanting about killing white people and I'll be just as upset.
But throwing that argument out there serves no purpose other than deflection.

security clearance
Maybe for the gov't. Who would want to work for the gov't anyways. He did himself a favor.

If he aspires to a significant management job, one that requires a security clearance, or one in an industry like banking, you're damn right he'll undergo a background check that includes a web search.

Ironically the original song turns out to be correct in the macro.
From now on at OU: There will never be a (fill in the blank with any ethnicity) SAE.
I'll bet his dad is mad not ashamed, chances are the son learned that attitude at home.
