It would be if that was the only bad impact. Safety and technology are worlds better today. But that second collision was pretty terrible.

With the safer barriers, I doubt that impact injured him too severely. That direct hit he took from another driver is the one to worry about.

Had this on the TV live when it happened. That was my thoughts when they showed the replay. I know those cars are specifically designed to allow the driver to survive a wide range of impacts. But I’m not sure they’re designed to take a direct square on 200 MPH hit to the driver side window while upside down.
