I smell what you’re cooking with that sass.

You’ve clearly thought it through fairly extensively, and while your overall point could be right, are there really THAT many instances of folks insisting that Ukraine is actively winning the war? I’ve seen some gossip of Ukraine having the capability of ultimately winning the war, but I believe those are completely different propositions.

Ukraine must be winning this war. They have drones and superior firepower. As of today, I still haven’t seen the Russians kill a single Ukrainian soldier from the videos I’ve seen. All the posted vids by the MSM and even here on this board demonstrate Russias ineptness of not killing anyone but innocent civilians.

To top it off, the Russians are getting raped by drones and their tanks are getting repoed by old Ukrainian farmers. The Russian body count must be over 10K. The proud Ukrainian troops are winning this war no doubt and it’s thanks to Biden and NATO for their sanctions.

I know you are being sarcastic, but the terms of "winning" when it comes to wars is very subjective, and different for every war.

The Russians are definitely losing this war. Maybe they take Ukraine, but the "aura" of a scary Russian military is gone.

And we are also seeing first hand, just like the entire world is seeing, that NATO military equipment and technology is so far advanced than the Russian (and Chinese, who are even behind the Russians in technology) that this has become a showcase for NATO on why you shouldn't frick with us.

There is no way Russia tries to invade a NATO country now, or strongarm them.

And the same goes for China.

Was there glory, honor, or dignity in these vehicles crossing the border into a sovereign nation to kill folks?

Perhaps - but, there’s two sides to that coin.

I think you missed my point.

How hard would it be to have objective journalism that posted honest narratives? Look, I have zero reason to believe not a single one of the videos or facts are/were fake. Even though several have been proven false like Snake Island incident or the Ghost of Kyiv for example.

Even still I think this war can still go either way but when I look at the maps it shows overwhelmingly that the Russians are advancing all over Ukraine but when I see the articles and videos like the one in the OP, I think well “maybe my eyes have deceived me”.

The only thing that I can say for certain about this conflict is “who frick really knows what is going on out there” and why are so many invested when our country's borders are being overrun and our domestic problems are not being addressed. In fact, it’s getting worse as we type. Enjoy your soirée!

By what measure? Being born where they were? Eating up the stupid propaganda they were fed? Join the army, see the world, serve your country, be a hero.

Reminds me a bit of this song.

Hero of War-Rise Against

He said "Son, have you seen the world?
Well, what would you say if I said that you could?
"Just carry this gun, you'll even get paid"
I said "That sounds pretty good"
Black leather boots
Spit-shined so bright
They cut off my hair but it looked alright
We marched and we sang
We all became friends
As we learned how to fight

A hero of war
Yeah, that's what I'll be
And when I come home
They'll be damn proud of me
I'll carry this flag
To the grave if I must
'Cause it's a flag that I love
And a flag that I trust

I kicked in the door
I yelled my commands
The children, they cried
But I got my man
We took him away
A bag over his face
From his family and his friends

They took off his clothes
They pissed in his hands
I told them to stop
But then I joined in
We beat him with guns
And batons not just once
But again and again

A hero of war
Yeah that's what I'll be
And when I come home
They'll be damn proud of me
I'll carry this flag
To the grave if I must
'Cause it's a flag that I love
And a flag that I trust

She walked through bullets and haze
I asked her to stop
I begged her to stay
But she pressed on
So I lifted my gun
And I fired away

And the shells jumped through the smoke
And into the sand
That the blood now had soaked
She collapsed with a flag in her hand
A flag white as snow

A hero of war
Is that what they see
Just medals and scars
So damn proud of me
And I brought home that flag
Now it gathers dust
But it's a flag that I love
It's the only flag I trust

He said, "Son, have you seen the world?
Well what would you say, if I said that you could?"

So I guess every bright eyed boy who wanted or was forced to serve was responsible for the the conflict, instead of the ones that sent them to fill their coffers and pad their portfolios?

I’ll say again.
Rich men make the war, the poor go forth and die.

I think everyone should watch Blackadder goes Fourth.

Not just because it’s absolutely hilarious, but because it manages to capture the absolute savagery and senselessness of modern warfare without being as dark and dour as I am.

This One always stuck in my craw.
General Melchett:
Don't worry my boy, if you should falter, remember that Captain Darling and I are behind you.
Captain Blackadder : About thirty-five miles behind you.

Which is one reason the Marine Corps has abandoned armor. All that “arse” is easily detectable and wiped out swiftly by far cheaper weapons.

With the musket, the knight became obsolete.

Cavalry and cannon were king before tank and machine gun cut them down.

Now, the armored knight is once again obsolete.

Each time the solution gets more brutal and detached. And the battlefield gets bigger.

Mark my words. When the world is the battleground, everyone’s a target,

Tanks have slanted frontal armor for a reason. I have no idea what Putin is doing wasting his force like this.

I’m leaning towards the idea that none of this is real, none of us is real, actually. Probably something more like some sort of virtual reality experiment by aliens. Because I can’t think of any other decent reason how and why things make less sense as a general matter than they ever have in history, and it’s not even close. I truly can’t imagine what to expect next.

That’s has exactly zero to do with why the Marines got rid of armor.

War was never meant to be personal. War is and will always be a continuation of politics by other means.

Do tell.

Similarly – and understandably, in a force that was designed with different assumptions regarding threat and environment – there are some capabilities that I assess we are over-invested in. A partial list includes heavily armored ground combat systems (tanks)

I hate to see it.

Putin, will probably get inpatient and start using bombs to destroy towns.

What I can see happening is he could possibly use a smaller nuclear weapon to make a statement.

Well. I guess that’s how it is now. Perhaps we’ll give Purple Hearts for carpal tunnel.

Oh blow it out your arse, you sanctimonious blowhard. Combat is still personal. When you’re the one taking rounds, it doesn’t matter if they’re from an enemy 10 yards away or 10’miles away.
Perhaps you should join up and get in some combat before you start waxing philosophical on the nature of modern warfare.

You know, you at least have to respect the tankers, on all sides, in the first two World Wars. Really any before the dawn of this style of war. At least those did battle on roughly equal terms. There’s respect, on a soldiers level, in mutual combat.

That…shooting fish in a barrel.

Your romanticism of war-making was clearly formed on the bloody lyric poetry battlefield and does not come from a man that has been on an actual battlefield of mortal combat. It is some of the most tone-deaf drivel on this forum which is saying something.

No man in combat ever cared where the bullet came from that saved his life, be it from his battle buddy 10 feet away or from Creech.
