However, from the engineering side, We were always most terrified of a steam line rupture or feed header rupture.
No, I take that back. Most nuclear trained guys on subs would say they’re most scared of a feed header rupture casualty. Without question.
Feed header rupture:
Instantly kill 3 watchstanders by scalding to death? Check.
Fires? Check.
Loss of propulsion in a short time? (no propulsion and the sub sinks) Check.
Reactor meltdown? (if feed rupture isn’t isolated quick enough) Check.
We hated running that drill because of how scared shitless it had us.
