I have flown on Aeroflot. I was terrified from take off to landing. That is what can happen when commies try to duplicate Western technology.

Aeroflot flight 593, where the pilot let his kids sit in the pilot's seat and his 16 year old son disengaged (accidentally) the autopilot.

quote:

With the autopilot active, Kudrinsky, against regulations, let the children sit at the controls. Kudrinsky's son Eldar occupied the pilot's seat. Unlike his sister, Eldar applied enough force to the control column to contradict the autopilot for 30 seconds. This caused the flight computer to switch the plane's ailerons to manual control while maintaining control over the other flight systems.

quote:

This confused the pilots for nine seconds, during which time the plane banked past a 45-degree angle to almost 90 degrees, steeper than the design allowed. The A310 cannot turn this steeply while maintaining height, and the plane started to lose altitude quickly. The increased g-forces on the pilots and crew made it extremely difficult for them to regain control.

quote:

Piskaryov then managed to pull out of the dive, but over-corrected, putting the plane in an almost vertical ascent, again stalling the plane, which fell out of the sky into a corkscrew dive.

That video looks terrifying

Just saw a video posted on Reddit from inside the burning plane complete with sound. I tapped out in less than 15 seconds. I may not sleep tonight.

You don't have to go to reddit. Just do a twitter search for Russian fire - It's the first video on the page (for me anyways).

I've flown Aeroflot. Will fly again. Will be squeezing the arm rest until I completely land.

Not sure but in that video it looks like their approach speed was far too fast.

I see that several passengers took the time to collect their overhead luggage, while others were left behind screaming in agony. How Russia can you get..

Aeroflot has had more (fatal) crashes than any airline in the history of commercial aviation.

8,231 have met their maker on Aeroflot metal.

Initial reports said a lightning strike. Which is odd to cause an emergency landing since most aircraft are struck by lightning once a year with little to no issues.

I was on a flight that had a very tough landing in a blizzard in Russia. It was the worst flight I ever had.

Not sure if link copied correctly but does this count as #3. I think 14 died on board.

This is what can happen when you don’t put your phones in airplane mode, folks.

Plane had full fuel tanks. Pilot didn't have time to dump. It's remarkable the gear didn't crush under the plane on the first bounce.
