As to your second point, my opinion is that it carries no relevance what I think of the "harshness" of the penalty.
I do think that because of the war, Griner should serve the penalty on principle. It shouldn't just be "other people's money" on the line. Begging for the US to intervene on her behalf is in direct contravention of US foreign policy at this point.

Deterrence is a component of criminal sentences. I believe that to be true. I believe “in” it as a concept, but not unfettered. For example, I don’t believe “in” (accept as right and just) much of the Islamic law and punishments. I believe many are extreme and overly harsh.
As I’ve said repeatedly, simply because I believe Griner’s sentence to be harsh, I don’t advocate for government involvement to rescue her.

You play stupid games, win stupid prizes
I guarantee you make mistakes in life too.
It'd be a different story if she just ignored their law and arrogantly did it anyway, but by all accounts that isn't the case.
How she feels about the US has no play in this at the end of the day.
If you sneezed while driving causing you to swerve a bit and kill somebody would you like to spend years in jail for it?

Does Biden play this card in the next 2 weeks or hold it for the 2024 election?

What a surprise.
The same lineup of posters find little sympathy for the victims of judicial excess when the victim is black. Here, black, gay and a woman, so they have a trifecta.
Do so much as investigate or subpoena any white male from the Trump administration and the whole federal judicial system must be burned to the ground...
Really living up to your username, as usual.

She was arrested at Moscow airport bringing drugs into Russia
She was quite literally trafficking drugs internationally from the US to Russia
Where have you been

Even her supporters have reported on that.
She brought vape cartridges into Russia, an illegal act under their laws.

I'd love your proof on this.
ETA: Proof beyond her claiming that of course. Because if you ask Darrel Brooks, he didn't do anything purposefully too.
