Russia isn't in Iraq, at least not yet. They're still building up their forces in Syria. What happens next is anyone's guess. I'd say there's a good probability there will emerge some sort of alliance between Russia and Syria with Iran to crush ISIS. When it's all said and done, most of Iraq will end up under the control of Iran, or at least a puppet of Iran, and Russia will be seen as the major "world" power over the region.

One thing about this is how will Saudi Arabia react? They'll have a powerful Iran sitting on their doorstep, an Iran that by then will probably have the bomb, and also has a powerful ally in Russia to back them up. I'd say at the least Saudi Arabia will respond with their own attempt at building nuclear weapons and then we'll have a new nuclear arms race on our hands, this time in the very unstable Middle East.

Um, Darth, did you read the article I linked? They are there...maybe not in any serious force, but they are there nonetheless...

Iran, and its now (or soon to be) proxy state of Iraq are going to turn that area on its collective head. Russia has already supplied them with the S-300 SAM system...so one has to wonder what else?

They don't like it when facts don't line up with the sunshine being pumped up their arse.

Darth, for some ungodly reason, has a following that just absolutely love down-voting him.

Some are also tired of wasting blood and treasure in a region where we've continually fricked things up. But hey, as long as it's someone else's kid getting shot at, what the hell.

There is my conundrum. I'm really just burnt out on fricking up over there. It's the incompetence and lack of willingness to engage that breeds the frustration. I'm certain our military can tackle that region quickly and with minimal harm to Americans, but out leadership will not remove the shackles they have to work under.

I agree with Darth and realize that America has to regrow our influence in the region and prevent Russia from turning into the new world police, but frick, I'm just so sick of the situation as it stands.

Oh, I missed that part. This is a new and troubling development.

Probably just about anything they want. And now that we've given them back literally hundreds of billions of dollars by lifting the sanctions, there's a lot they can buy.

More than just a little troubling...

I would imagine they threw in a nuke or two for being such good customers...

I'll be honest. Every time I see a downvote on one of my posts, I know I've rustled someone's Jimmies, and it makes me smile just a little. It's like they're paying me rent for the space I'm taking up in their head.

Really, one has to wonder why this isn't more alarming. I know that there are those on here who believe what the administration tells them, but c'mon...

We may as well face it, the Iraqi state that we set up will soon be gone. And really, it already is considering the influence exerted over it now by Iran.

I'd say there's a better than 50% chance they've at least helped speed Iran along to their own bomb.

I think they're in denial because to look at the world and really see what's going on is to be confronted with the fact that under Obama's watch the world, already in bad shape, is now truly going to shite. As long as they keep their heads in the sand and that stream of sunshine flowing into their arse, they can keep on pretending that everything OK.

But, but, but wasn't the pullout supposed to be good for Iraq?

I would be willing to add another 50% on top of that. Funny how this isn't troublesome to some...

Want to guess on who will be blamed since our illustrious leader loves to point the finger of blame but yet takes no responsibility?

Bush or the GOP. It will probably be all out war over there by Jan 2017 when we have a GOP President and people will be too ignorant to see that it was 8 years in the making.

Boils down to Europe doesn't want to rely on Russia for it's oil and gas needs. Assad is stopping the proposed pipeline from the sandbox. It's in Russia's interest to make sure Assad remains in power.

End of story.

Bingo. Just as everyone forgets that the whole Iraq and "weapons of mass destruction" started under Clinton when he'd bomb them every few months whenever one of his scandals started taking up too much time on the news.

Pres Clinton explains that he's bombing Iraq due to it's weapons of mass destruction capabilities

LINK

quote:

The December 1998 bombing of Iraq (code-named Operation Desert Fox) was a major four-day bombing campaign on Iraqi targets from December 16, 1998, to December 19, 1998, by the United States and United Kingdom. The contemporaneous justification for the strikes was Iraq's failure to comply with United Nations Security Council resolutions and its interference with United Nations Special Commission inspectors.

The operation was a major flare-up in the Iraq disarmament crisis. The stated goal of the cruise missile and bombing attacks was to strike military and security targets in Iraq that contribute to Iraq's ability to produce, store, maintain and deliver weapons of mass destruction. The bombing campaign had been anticipated since February 1998 and incurred wide-ranging criticism and support, at home and abroad.[2] Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates initially announced they would deny U.S. military the use of local bases for the purpose of air strikes against Iraq.[3] It became one of the roots of the 2003 invasion of Iraq which resulted in the deposition of the Ba'athist Iraqi government

If you ask a liberal today about it they'll tell you the notion of Iraq having weapons of mass destruction was a lie first made up by Bush & Cheney in the early 2000's... all while ignoring the fact Clinton bombed the shite out of Iraq for this very reason years before.
