I've never understood distance running, especially past about 30. That shite is horrible on your body.

RIP to this guy

Genetics trump exercise and healthy eating.

Brutally true statement and unfortunate reality for millions of people.

Genetics have a huge influence on life and it’s way more than people think.

You can’t just show up and run these things without preparing your body

Why do you assume he wasn't trained up to run 6 miles? When it's your time, it's your time.

I’ve seen people running in 5Ks stopping for a “smoke break”. I asked them “are you crazy”? They said it gave hem a “boost” when they started getting tired.

One of the guys credited for creating the running boom in the 1970s was a guy named Jim Fixx.

In 1977 he wrote a book called The Complete Book of Running.

He died at the age of 52 during his daily training run.

His family history was awful, plus he was a heavy smoker up until the age of 36, had a couple of divorces, and a stressful job.

I'm 65. I run a couple of miles 5 times a week. I enter 5Ks every now and then. As long as my joints hold out, I'm going to continue doing it.

everyone needs to see a cardiologist at 30 or 35 on. I have a bad family history and was an avid lifter/runner/ and ate well. I was at my healthiest when I first saw one and aced all the tests.

Had a calcium score and it was 1200!!! He had to go in and do a cath to see where the plaque was, and fortunately it wasn't blocking anything, just scattered along the walls.

Ive been on shots every since to lower LDL even though it wasn't that bad. For heart history it needs to be under 70 to prevent any further plaque. I also do yearly checkups and tests

Everyone needs to get tested

Well, damn, was he just left to lie there instead of having CPR administered by someone?

Damn, I am 45 and I eat like crap and borderline diabetic. My calcium score was zero last year.

Oh yeah, I’m the same age. He said it’s completely genetic. In fact, he said, had I not been such a strict runner it would have been much worse.

He said he’s had marathons with 4000 calcium scores.

It's 2026. They're begging for help even if he carried a 2M policy.

I'm 43, relatively healthy by all accounts and picked up running a couple of years ago. This is definitely a fear of mine. I need to get a heart scan but I'm so distrustful of the medical world I'm afraid this would happen to me even if it wasn't really necessary...

Do you have family history of heart disease?

The only reason my wife found out was because she needed to have a different procedure done, but when the doc found out about her family history, he insisted that she get tested before he would agree to the procedure. She went to a cardiologist and he performed the calcium scan. After that, he did an angiogram to validate it. The good new is that no "stent" or surgery are required. He can treat her with medication, but she'll be on it for the remainder of her life.

I stay away from the CCC because most of the participants have no idea what they are doing.

12 years ago I decided to run a half marathon and started training in Jan. Worked up to the 10k and signed up for the CCC. I knew my exact pace time and signed up for that slot. I lost a good 3 mins on my start running around a bunch of people with strollers and walking. It’s a shite show.
