In big cities yeah

Rummel / declining enrollment, look at how many schools have closed in the last few years. Jesuit reject list used to be 5-600 kids now it’s 100 or so.

No they are not.....

Most Catholic schools don’t take vouchers.

In EBR, a significant portion of the public school students are paying absolutely nothing to attend, subsidized, like most government programs, by those that pay for programs they don’t benefit from.

I’m still trying to figure out if you are a troll, a liberal, or are just stupid. Although none of these are mutually exclusive.

I would be curious to see the demographic breakdown of white oak landing and Shenandoah. I would assume both are getting older and filled with less children.

Since when were liberals supportive of cutting all public K-12 education? I don’t know which political party would support that position.

Lol. Do you realize most of the country uses public schools? Baton Rouge is an outlier because the public school system is horrible. I couldn't believe how many private schools were here when I first moved to the area. Private schools aren't an indication of a noble society, it's just a symptom of a shitty school system.

My public school in NY rivals that of SJA/CHS in terms of quality education. I look back and am amazed that some of my educators were from schools like NYU, Colombia, and even Juliard (music).

As an outsider, I agree it is a very big culture shock learning about the public/private school divide in LA

When moving from Lake Charles to BR, it was recommended I post on Tigerdroppings asking what area I should look at.

My first thread on TD (I've changed accounts since then) was a thread asking for advice on where to move. Posters suggested Dutchtown and I could not have been happier with that advice.

Dutchtown isn’t a great school. Adequate? Sure.

AP Schools have served my children very well. But my last one graduated a few years ago so maybe things have changed

1. Pack up the desks, books, chalkboards, etc.
2. Move to Ascension Parish.

The end.

Sounds like a solid plan. People moved their because of the good public school system.. So they can send their kids to without having to pay for private school, but the answer to keep a private school open is to move to a place where people moved to to avoid having to pay for a good education?

What it boils down to is more and more middle class people want/depend on free shite and so they will choose put their children in government funded schools... public, magnet, charter etc.

Wait, you're mad because the government has actually gotten around to improving public schools to the point where middle class parents are finally comfortable enough to send their children there to get their primary education? Wow. I guess you really can't please everyone.

Shame he strung these families along for a decade. The school was failing financially long before the flood. The flood gave him an excuse and a way to try to salvage something with donations but it was not enough. It just allowed him the opportunity to blame the flood instead of his poor management of fund. He would not change and his stubbornness and I suspect some financial skeletons kept him from advancing the school. He actually turned down an offer from the surrounding chemical industry leaders to make Runnels a STEM center. He told everyone that he wanted to keep the school art-focused but in reality he was afraid to have to open up his books. Just one of several failings that he lied about.

Yep. They gladly took my full payment for 2 kids, while telling us that K-8 was in good shape, knowing full-well they were going to shut the school down. They wait until all of the magnet/private school placements are done to drop the bomb on 500 families. Oh, and they'll hold our already-paid $16k making paying for a new school tuition even that more difficult. Completely unfathomable coming from a school that was all about being "kind."

I think a lot of the outsiders reading about this announcement don't understand that it isn't so much about the school closing, but HOW they are doing it.
