EBR like La. is losing population.
Private schools are expensive.
That area flooded too.
The Edwards economy has taken hold in a lot of areas.

It's really difficult to sustain a school that had built itself upon a certain total enrollment number and then watched those numbers evaporate year over year.
There was another private school that suffered the same fate. I can't remember the name of it but it was over there by the Target on Millerville. I knew a guy who's family started it and it closed maybe about 5 years ago. I THINK it was K-12, maybe K-8 though.
Millerville Academy? Does that sound right?

Millerville Academy?
Yes that is the correct name of the place on Millerville.
In the early 80's we actually had church services there as a startup WELS church in Baton Rouge.
Chip was the guys name who owned the school and he was very generous.
I don't know how or why the school went out of business but I am sure the real estate was worth a fair amount of money. The bulk of what makes up the Best Buy/Lowes/Target development was that property.
I think this is why the Catholic schools tend to make it long term. It's not just the money but some type of long term plan and management to make the place viable in the long run.
I don't know all the finances at Runnels even as a paying parent but it appears the financial planning isn't working out for the long term.

They do have a basketball team
When I was in hs (94-98) they used to have a really good baseball team. Pretty sure that back then they were either a Class B or Class C school.

I used to play little league games there right about where Best Buy or Lowe's is now.

Household of Faith Church has Faith Academy which was a small k-8 private school. I believe Ascension Christian is them expanding into a private hs, but I could be wrong. I know Ascension Christian is not run by Catholics.
My neighbors wife is a teacher there and 4 daughters either go there (HS) or just graduated from there. Seems like a pretty good school from what Ive heard from others. The kids have alot of friends over all the time and they are all very well mannered so their parents and school are obviously doing something right.

Everyone is saying that St. Joe’s is brutal or a tough place to go. What’s the deal there?

It’s an all girls school and the girls are absolutely brutal to each other.
It’s not the academics that are difficult, it’s the other students.

You already know I'm from Central. I went to Redemptorist, but I left when my parents realized I could get a better education for free 5 minutes down the street.

And didn't they also have a program for kids with dyslexia?
Yes, a huge one. 50% of my classmates went to the lab for each test/quiz.

I wonder where the new school is gonna play their sports at lol
The school is going next to Tractor Supply, supposedly they believe the Meraux Fdn is going to give them some land in the tract next to it for an athletic complex (the tract where the port wants to go).

Runnels today, Rummel tomorrow...…..
Rummel is half of what they used to be... but they seem to be stabilizing at 600 or so.
BUT... some of the same demographic factors that impact Runnels are absolutely in play. Jefferson is getting older, and the public schools are getting better, which is absolutely pulling boys from the pink and powder blue. Same for Chappelle.
