Whenever a school threatens to shut down year after the year the writing is on the wall. It's not a matter of if but when. This goes for other examples I have seen.

There is always a chance of some big donor coming out of the woodwork in exchange for some consideration.
I don’t know the full story but the reason that Dunham is now Dunham instead of Chapel Trafton is that a family made a huge donation in the 80s or 90s with the renaming being a requirement in order to get the money.

I suspect they’ll be fine. It’s not an astronomical deficit and there are some very wealthy parents that send their kids to Runnels.
The establishing of the finance committee was a must though.

f you're trying to climb the social ladder in Baton Rouge, you do not accomplish that by sending your kids to Runnels.

Is that something people in BTR aspire to do?

I was hearing of rumbles of financial worries before the flood. Cannot imagine how bad it is now

He’s talking about free tuition for 4 kids while working for the school.

Down in St. Bernard, Lynn Oaks is moving and reforming into a Christian school (but not affiliated with any church or religious group) and wanting to add back a high school (the high school at Lynn Oaks closed long ago). They are looking for a 400 person school grades Pre-K to 10th and then adding 11th and 12th over next two years. There's a weird deal with FEMA money that they kept and will use that to build a modular campus, but I'm really interested in seeing if the finances will work.

That’s pretty much it, although there’s also some elites in Mid City. It’s mostly lots of charity balls, mediocre mardi gras krewes, cotillion for their kids, country club and city club membership, involvement in various arts and cultural organizations, etc. i rubbed elbows with a lot of those folks when I was dating my ex-wife, and I cannot say I see what all of the fuss is about. Most of their charity events are lame, the cotillions are just fancy versions of CYO dances with all the same kids from their private schools, the non-LSU affiliated orchestras are mediocre at best, and BR Mardi Gras Balls are a complete joke, like a trashier lamer version pf tailgating in the Grove at Oxford minus the football game at the end.
The only good “perk” I can see is good LSU Football tickets, and you can buy your way into that without having to rub noses with a bunch of muckity mucks who like to call themselves Macaroni. It’s ridiculous what an over-inflated view of themselves a lot of those people have.

The weird stigma is highly skewed. They marketed themselves as an arts school but for most of 2000-2010 they were a good athletics school for their size.
