Prob right. Rispone and Jindal drove the final stake in Redemptorist with the ed reforms of Jindals second term.
No Parkview beat Redemptorist in football by like 60 points so they shut down the school.

The school is going next to Tractor Supply, supposedly they believe the Meraux Fdn is going to give them some land in the tract next to it for an athletic complex (the tract where the port wants to go).

"Runnels had made some shady financial decisions"
Mostly borrowing money to pay off potential lawsuits that set the school back. The major problem is the school was run by an owner, not a board, so many financial decisions were personal not fiscally responsible. Additionally, their pay scale was completely out of wack. One teacher/employee could be paid 4 times what another teacher/employee made because they were a favorite of the owner not based on qualifications. Staff received deals on tuition regardless of how many kids they had there or how many hours they worked. For instance, I could teach two classes have 4 kids there and get free tuition for all of them over a 20 year period. Someone else could teach 4 classes and have one student and get free tuition for 12 years. Meanwhile the parents who did not work there were subsidizing all those who did. The financial structure became way to top heavy. When restructuring was suggested by anyone, you would be black balled.

The owner of the school was Champ Thacker.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Paul.

I used to play little league games there right about where Best Buy or Lowe's is now.
The ball field was where Chili’s is now.
Very nice little ballpark.

Well I was close, it was 40 years ago. Thanks for the correction.

Good guy
I think he had some health issues and he and his wife decided to shut things down.

I know the son very well. Also a great guy. I just don’t think he wasn’t very involved with the running of the school so when the parents advanced in age, it became best to just shut it down than to let it deteriorate. That part is speculation, but I think it’s pretty accurate.

St. Joseph’s a great school but that’s a misleading statistic. Females, nation wide, finish college at a much higher rate than males because college is geared specifically towards the female mindset.
So it’s really not shocking that a school with 100% female population has a higher per capita rate of grads finishing college compared to other schools.

Hate to hear this, but thanks for posting the information. I haven't heard anything about Runnels since I left BR in 1994.
My son attended Runnels in the 1980s-90s. The governor (Edwin Edwards) was using public schools as a means to get his way with the legislators and voters. ("We don't have the money for my PET GRAFT and the schools too; we have to cut the education budget.")
The Runnels staff and the students parents were really good people, who valued a quality education.
(Edited to capitalize PET GRAFT.)

Everyone is saying that St. Joe’s is brutal or a tough place to go. What’s the deal there?
1. Girls are already brutal to each other, so imagine a school with all girls.
2. It’s known that girls with certain last names or come from $$$ kinda do what they want, say what they want, and not get told a damn thing.
When I was in HS, we had to go over to SJA during the day for some project. I’m all excited and ready to dive head first into a sea of beautiful women.....
Boy was I wrong, mass majority of them looked like they just rolled outta bed, put their hair in a twist, no makeup and went to school.

Most SJA women I have met went on to become Social Workers, Gov't Employees, and Teachers.
Noble professions, no doubt but was the cost of their secondary education justified given their future careers?

The plant worker Catholics send their kids to St. Michaels. That school is very blue collar and lower-middle class. The rich send their kids to Catholic and SJA with a small portion going to Episcopal and Dunham.
Seems like a good school until this conversation transpires:
Me: How was Catholic High?
Parent: It's expensive but the best money I ever spent. It really prepared them for college.
Me: O RLY? That's great. Where's your kid going to school?
Parent: LSU
