You say that, but I doubt Oil Field baws were feeling sorry for Liberal Arts and Sociology grads who can't find jobs.
That said I feel for anyone struggling to provide for their family.

So all 2800 employees in new Orleans are being laid off? Then they are rehI ring 2800 new people in houston? Hmm.

Wow there are some really smart baws in this thread.

I truly think some of you enjoy it when people go through hard times.
Kinda reminds me of the old saying: Don't tell people your problems, because 80% don't care, and the other 20% are glad you have 'em.

Really? No. It sounds like they are cutting some of the positions, while taking the opportunity to move/transfer the others to Houston.

Wonder if some of these assholes have any sympathy for the millions of individuals that made their living in the housing industry when the bubble burst in 08? Or how about for everyone employed by Enron back in the day? Guess all those people should've seen it coming right?
I agree that when you work in an up and down industry like the O&G you need to save up when times are good. If you fail to do this you will learn the hard way. However, it's still okay to have sympathy for those people. I felt bad for the people Bernie Madoff stole from even though I felt there were things they could've done to watch after their money better.

But I also don't make obscene amounts of money greater than my experience/education either.
So they are overpaid? What happened to our friends Supply and Demand? They were here a minute ago when we were spending time chiding our O&G posters for picking this field.

I know entire group is being cut from that office.
And they be selling off two of those deep water assets.
I haven't heard that they are closing that office but it would not surprise me.
On another note. Shell has the office space that they own in Houston to put the workers from One Shell Square. I haven't heard the rumor that they are closing that office either though.
The industry isn't just facing a downturn. It is facing a collapse. What transpired in the 80's collapse took years to come back from and this one could be worse.

My problem with people like him is simple. Our economy is on the verge of taking a huge shite that will affect everyone one way or another. The O&G baws may be the first line of people hit, but eventually it's going to hit everyone. People are losing their ability to provide for their families, how about we stop talking shite about whats about to be a really bad situation for everyone.

Haven't most of these companies been recording bazillions in profits annually for decades now? And then a downturn hits and they start cutting. It sounds like the failure to responsibly plan for a rainy day is systemic from the top down to truck nuts.
I wonder if these companies would cut jobs just to force some kind of market correction via govt interference?
You are a true moron.

OK thanks. That is what I'm trying to figure out from the OP. How many net jobs or net people are losing jobs out of this 2800?

This kind of comment isn't any different than someone saying you shouldn't live along the Gulf Coast and expect any sympathy when it comes to hurricanes or you shouldn't live in CA and expect any sympathy when an earthquake strikes.
Not even close to the same thing

I think that understates the situation. The Saudis poisoned the shale plays. That's where the remaining substantial domestic reserves are. Until the Middle East runs out of oil, US oil production will be in decline.

I don't think he detailed that much. It will either be a non-event or a holy shite when the numbers get announced. It may not be all that many jobs, but Shell leaving would be a huge blow to the psyche of New Orleans as it relates to their grasp in O&G. It pretty much would be the end of an era.

Yeah, I'm surprised when I read these threads. So many tards that live in oil states seem to not have a clue as to what's happening. It's not just oil and gas jobs. Engineering firms, law firms, tug companies, home construction, heavy construction, equipment providers, etc.
And the states finances were beyond fcked befor all of this. I wouldn't want to be a state employee of any kind right now.
