Shell announces additional 2800 job cuts on top of announced 7500 with operations in New Orleans (One Shell Square) purportedly moving to Houston. The New Orleans info comes from a friend of mine in Houston.

Still love my $1.60 gas. Should have chosen a less volatile career field.

It's $3/gal in St. Maarten, but it was almost $8/gal when I moved here in sept '14. Plus the island is only 37 sq miles and drinking and driving is legal.

Sucks for those laid off though

This kind of comment isn't any different than someone saying you shouldn't live along the Gulf Coast and expect any sympathy when it comes to hurricanes or you shouldn't live in CA and expect any sympathy when an earthquake strikes.

I'll never understand the sentiment of "frick you, you should have known better."

FWIW, I work in the banking and investment field so I'm relatively insulated.

I think/hope there's a few holes in your friend's story. Otherwise that's a huge blow to the city.

I do too, and the last company I looked at was an engineering/consulting firm dealing with the downturn. The company will survive a moderate downturn, but layoffs will follow the completion of current projects because there are no big projects in the pipeline. I feel for these people and if it continues it will hit other industries, including banking.

Losing Shell locally would hurt many companies in New Orleans.
