Well of course there are dumbasses who screw it up. I've never had a problem with one.
Perfect use (not dumbass) effectiveness is the 98% figure.
Typical use is around 85% which is a bit scary.
Interestingly enough, pull and pray is not far off in terms of effectiveness.
