And yet you apparently still shop there.

Talk about feeling old. I used to go to TG&Y there with my grandmother.

They were supposed to build a “Jerry Lewis Theater” in there, too. Nothing ever came from it. Built one at LSU University Mall. Didn’t last long.
there was a JL theater in BR?

when/where was this?

Nah. I quit when one day I walked in and the whole store smelled like a sewer, Mr. Rouse.
Still, if they remodeled that turd to match the others in their fleet, I’d shop there again.

It was in the University shopping center across…is it State Street?…across from where the McDonalds used to be, almost to the end. I haven’t been past Highland that way in a while. I bought my Pink Floyd tickets in that record store in ‘94 at that University Shopping center.
I don’t believe it was named that for very long, if it was, but I remember seeing the Jerry Lewis sign in that shopping center. I think it became University Cinema, or something like that.
Drusilla shopping center had a “coming soon” sign only.
This was mid to late 70s.

It was to the left of Drusilla seafood. Not sure whats there now. But it wasnt as long ago as some of the other stores mentioned.

Does anyone remember when Drusilla Seafood used to run a seafood market out of the space next to it?

Hoppers was great. The family dollar used to be an Eckerd's. Party Paradise lasted for a long time.

But man I miss fast track. About 10 or so years ago there was still 1 fast track operating in a gas station outside of the motiva plant in Convent. I took a special trip when I found out about it and the burger and fries were the same as I remember them.

I visited BR when I was in single digits in the late '70s and I'm pretty sure I went to the Univ Cinema. There was no trace of Jerry

I bought some boiled crawfish from the Rouses here in Mobile. They were nasty. Caked in mud. Does no one wash and purge crawfish anymore? It’s chronic and most every place I go now.

Ah, I remember the days when Drusilla had a TG&Y, Hopper’s, Radio Shack, Hi Nabor, Johnny’s Pizza, and Party City. The good ol’ days.

And a Pack a Sack has station at the little strip mall on the corner of Drusilla and Jefferson (where the McDonald's is now).

Grok says the Jerry Lewis Cinema opened up 11/4/1970. One of the first in the South. By 1973 they added two more screens and by then it was known as the University Cinema, also called University Cinema 4. I was excited waiting for the one to be built in Drusilla, as I lived in Westminster then and would have LOVED to walk to a movie theater.

Shocked I remember it really, since I was only 10 at the time. Might have seen it on a trip to Der Weinersnitzle (sp?) that was right across from where the Ra Shop is, give or take a half block or so.

Closed in 1995. I can’t remember what movies I saw there, tho.

The Dollar store was suppose to move out to move to another location so the Rouses could expand all the way to the bank. They did not and the landlord kept them around.

So we are stuck with a mini Rouses. Shame, I like LeBlanc's better.

It sucks that it's so small, but that is no excuse to constantly be out of multiple items, continually sell spoiled or near spoiled food, and generally not care whatsoever about the appearance of the store.
