My recovery wasn’t terrible. Trying to sleep in a recliner was difficult. Buy a cheap sling to use when you take a shower.

Labrum here too. I had to do rehab on my own since I was traveling every week, hotel gyms using a bottle of water as a weight to start, lol.
I asked the therapist how I would know if I was pushing too hard, and I got a response along the lines of, “honey, you will pass out from the pain before you tear that repair.”
The MRI dye shot was worse than any post surgical pain. Yeah, scrape that needle around on the bone some more…

First time was rotator cuff and labrum repair. Did not get ahead on the meds after I got home. Worse pain I’ve ever had. So the rehab. It pays off.
Went back to playing rugby again. Tore my labrum again and they also had to do a biceps tenodisis (cutting bicep tendon off the shoulder, drilling a hole in the upper arm bone, and reattaching there).
Rotator cuff pain and immobility was the worst, by far.

Depends on your issue. If its torn, it gonna take some time. I had bone spurs that had to be removed and the tissue cleaned up. I was fine in a week or two

I blew up my shoulder in a bad ski crash. Got lucky enough to have the chief surgeon of the US ski team do my surgery. (I’m not anyone special; right place right time.)
Didn’t feel a thing until the first shower after I got home. They told me to “stay in front of the pain.” Basically, by the time the pain starts the pills won’t work nearly as well, so take them as prescribed even if you feel you need them.

Is it your arse wiping arm? Get a bidet, that non dominant hand doesn't have a clue how to wipe.

This is probably the best advice you’ll get from this thread.

Had right shoulder repaired in MAR 2023 and the left shoulder going on 3 months post recovery (finally able to get them fixed going on 35 years of service and counting). Ask for a polar care cube (ice machine). Worked wonders for both surgeries and the recovery.
Use combo of ice and frozen water bottles as that will get you 4 hours or more of cold water circulating around the shoulder.
Regardless of the pain, start the home exercises early and often. Get into formal PT as early as possible especially having the folks moving your shoulder as soon as possible.
My PT does dry needling and that also works wonders.

Don't take pain meds before therapy.

I've had 3 shoulder surgeries. Taking pain meds before will dull the pain causing you to potentially over do it since you can't feel the pain as much. And you will be in worse pain once the pill wears off.

Be nice to your physical terrorist.

With all due respect...3 shoulder surgeries is alot!.....If your PT lets you overdo it, you need a new PT...Figuring that out is their job.

On the rehab side of things, therapy will be very slow in the beginning and it will take some patience. It’s important to protect the repair because re-tear rates are high and it takes time for the anchors to calcify. The main focus initially will be improving range of motion/decreasing pain and then strengthening will happen down the road. Patience is a virtue with this recovery. I’d suggest taking pain meds prior to therapy so that you will be able to tolerate range of motion exercises.
When it comes to therapy, the philosophy is NOT “no pain no gain.” It’s important to use pain as your guide. Some pain/discomfort is ok. Severe pain is not ok.
As others have said, it sleeping in a recliner is very common and most people feel the most comfortable that way.
Best of luck to you in your recovery!

PTs let you go at your pace at least mine did. Both my doctor and my physical therapist said no pain meds before therapy.
I'm actually in need of two more shoulder surgeries. Not looking forward to that.

3 surgeries all on my left shoulder with my latest being a new replacement called the OVOMotion. Get an ice machine off Amazon. They are amazing and will be your best friend. Start doing pendulums as soon as you are comfortable to do them. Order the Shoulder Reliever deal and start using when you start PT. It’s a long road. You will start to feel better and then hurt like hell after a bit. Don’t know why but all 3 of mine did this. If you do start to feel better early on, DO NOT over due it. You will regret it lol

If you have not had the surgery yet, the number one prep thing is to shave your chest hair on that side. Surgical tape is a mofo to tear off.

Wish someone had told me this. Felt like I needed a shower after every poop.
Mark Field at BR Ortho did both of mine. Can't recommend him enough.

Dr Craig Greene did mine at BRG Bluebonnet. Great bedside manner. Started the percoset as soon as I felt the nerve block weaken. Start therapy on Tuesday. Kudos to everyone for the tips and sharing your experiences.
