Roswell Ga Police Officer Fired For Confederate Flag In Yard

WSB-TV
A Roswell pastor said a police officer was fired on Thursday after the Roswell Police chief received a complaint that a Confederate flag was flying outside the officer’s house where an official police vehicle was parked in the driveway.
Roswell Police Chief Rusty Grant told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Saturday that he could not comment on any specifics of the case, including the very nature of the case. He would only confirm that a Roswell officer had been fired on Thursday.
Here’s what led to the complaint. Last Sunday, in the wake of police shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota, and the massacre of five Dallas police officers, Pastor Lee Jenkins of Eagle’s Nest Church in Roswell, invited Grant and his department to worship with them. Grant, who has made it a point to visit predominantly African American churches since the unrest in Ferguson, Mo., accepted the invitation, he said.
“For me the takeaway from Ferguson was that a lot of African Americans don’t trust police officers and don’t see them as I did when I was growing up,” Grant said. “I honestly didn’t know that before. I was ignorant of that. Everyone needs to work to make things better.”

So many things to argue about on this one. The OT will love it.

Good. The last thing this country needs is more racist cops under the guise of "heritage."
And that is great work by Mr. Grant. He sees an opportunity to increase his own involvement within the community he serves and took it. Too bad more police are not as proactive as him. P

I don't disagree with him being fired. No matter my opinion about what the flag could stand for, a lot of people view it as a symbol of hate. The police should appear impartial, and there is a large group of people that would question his position. Free speech does not equate to job security. It's common sense that this had the potential to have a negative impact on his job, so it's safe to say he might not be the most qualified for his position.

I don't disagree with his firing, as he's probably racist as hell, and we don't need white cops that are racist AND dumb.
Chief Justice Ginsburg can call a presidential candidate a "faker", and there be no repercussions.
Yes, we a society of classes.

That ugly, drunk skank is NOT the Chief Justice.
These are sensitive times and those in certain positions need to be careful.

Well then frick those people protesting at trump rallies waving the Mexican flag. I mean they did get the shite kicked out of them so that must mean they shouldn't by flying that treasonous trash. One thing I love about Terrebone parish. So many csa battle flags flying around. Y'all need to check out the store in klondyke. Three on flag poles in the front.

Why is that? Do you not agree anyone can be fired for violating a companies values? Image is everything, and all institutions have the right to uphold the image they are trying to achieve.

Right in principle.
Wrong in 2016 America.

And that's why our once great constitutional republic has become a shithole banana republic.

It's pretty stupid in this day and age if you're a public servant to do that.

He's got a nice law suit going.
City Lawyers will end up making him a quick offer for it to go away.

If he was saying "Kill all blacks" or a black cop saying "Kill all whites" would the first amendment keep his job? I think you can still be fired for being dumb and this seems to be one of those instances. In the cultural climate that we live in if you are a white cop proudly flying a confederate flag or a black cop proudly flying a black panthers flag and your chief decides to fire you I have no sympathy for you.
