Apparently there was no evidence that McKnight made an attempt to enter Gasser's vehicle. Can't shoot someone standing outside your car no matter how loud they are yelling.

I do think he will get a new trial because of the judge allowing the previous road rage incident.
The court of appeals is who actually made the decision to allow it
quote:
The state Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal sided with a Jefferson Parish district court judge who decided to allow prosecutors to introduce evidence of a prior road rage incident involving Ronald Gasser, the man accused of fatally shooting former NFL player Joe McKnight.

Excellent...two more dangerous individuals taken off the streets. Glad neither of were able to hurt any innocent people.

Did they simply deny the writ or did they actually take it up and render an opinion?

So McKnight was just as guilty? The courts say a life is worth 30 years then.
Dumb logic here.

I don't remember specifically, but I don't think they rendered an opinion.

Did they simply deny the writ or did they actually take it up and render an opinion?

Prosecutors successfully argued during pretrial hearings, however, that it was relevant because the state needed to rebut Gasser's self-defense claim and that a prior road-rage incident in which Gasser was said to be the aggressor was therefore relevant.
Kovach granted the state's request before the trial, and Gasser's attorneys appealed to the state 5th Circuit Court of Appeal, which upheld her decision. In denying Gasser's bid to exclude the incident, a three-judge panel pointed to an appeals court decision in a Shreveport murder case that seemed to mirror the issue in Gasser's case.

The tragedy could have been avoided if either man "had the good sense, the courage and the wisdom to simply disengage
And it's true and goes the same for the Will Smith incident. Both parties are at fault for letting their emotions and actions get away with them. It's just that one party suffered the greatest punishment one could receive, and the other party will spend a large portion, if not all, their life in jail. Sad all around.

If I remember correctly the Shereport murder case was different because the defendant was actually charged in the first case. In this case Gasser wasn’t charged and it was a he said/he said incident.

That’s what I thought. 30 seems a little harsh but this guys backround hurt his chances of getting benefit of doubt

You can. If he tries to get in and you fearfully feel shooting him is the only way he'll stop.
You can't just shoot him for walking angrily up to your car.

No. He was at the window, all the evidence pointed to that. He was not in the car though. He did have his hand on the door of the open window.

With Gasser stopped at the Terrytown intersection's red light, McKnight pulled next to Gasser's passenger side where witnesses said the men continued to argue. McKnight got out of his sport utility vehicle, goaded by Gasser, who shot McKnight three times after he placed a hand on Gasser's open passenger-side window
This is a close case. You are allowed to use deadly force to protect yourself but only in the event of real imminent danger. The jury decided that placing a hand on the window during a heated argument did not constitute such.
Always better to turn the other cheek. These road rage incidents can easily get out of hand. And for what?

If he’s not a complete shite show, he’ll be out in 12. Got to love our justice system.

If he shoots anyone else besides a black former football star he walks.
This is not justice, this is pandering.

Put him somewhere with bumper cars. He'll take care of the rest.
