Nothing to be ashamed of, that's a damn fine watch. I'd wear that any day.
To OP: The Rolex is more my taste, but it's too rich for my blood.

That is the titanium version with the blue dial. The curved sapphire over the bezel that matches the domes crystal gives it a really cool look though some people don't like it.
The FF was the first modern dive watch released the Submariner was released within a couple of months. Not suggesting either is a copy of the other. They both were originally designed from a list of criteria from the French Combat Swimmers corp. So in essence a captain and lieutenant in the FCS were largely responsible for the design of the modern dive watch back when watches were often designed for jobs not just jewelry.

Interesting JLC came up right after I mentioned BP because a while back there was a question of what was everyone's favorite everyday watch and not really being able to narrow to 1 from my accumulation I posted this picture:
L to R
JLC Navy Seals Diver
Rolex Sea Dweller 4000
Blancpain Fifty Fathoms
Most people don't think of JLC as a sports watch manufacturer but IMO they knocked the NSD out of the park and fortunately kept all the Navy Seals references on the back, otherwise I wouldn't own it.
Ulysse Nardin is somewhat of a red-headed stepchild and often conjures up visions of Russian oligarchs but they are nice watches but over-priced at retail but can be had at very good prices on the used market. I have a couple of UN dive watches and I like them because they are different and also were extremely well priced when I bought them used.
JLC is an excellent watch brand period and the Reverso along with the Cartier Tanks are the most iconic non-square dressy watches, though neither started as a dress watch.

I do not like the magnifying bump so omega. I don’t like the day counter either. Watches are for time but as fashion as well. I mean we all usually know what time it is. Or around it.

Yep, Tudor made the watches for the Marine Nationale with the most iconic being the blue Tudor Sub. Many of the french divers would wear them on upside down on their right wrist and contracted Tudor for the LHD versions so both the Pelagos and your BB have direct DNA from those watches. Earlier this year Tudor announced a new partnership with Marine Nationale and everyone is betting they will make a watch with inspiration from the blue Sub. I wish they would make a copy but that won't happen they will use the BB for the base.

great info, thanks. I'm pretty much a novice but an very curious one. Knew UN had the anchor logo so figured they may make a solid dive watch

Outside the niche and bespoke the production highend companies I like are pure chalk, Patek Phillipe, Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet and Lange & Sohne.
Lange does better finishing but if I was stuck to picking one it would be Patek since they have a wider selection of everyday sports watches. Lange makes a SS sports watch now but I don't like the design.
IWC straddles the fence between mid and high end making watches at both levels. The Portugieser is the upper end of mid-level to me. You do have to try one on, they wear large because they are all dial. I have a couple of 7 days from before they changed and the name was still Portuguese those are even larger but they have a cool movement...

While their dive watches are solid though not as useful at being an actual dive watch as others the anchor has a different origin.
UN started and made their name making extremely accurate marine chronometers for ships back in the day of sailing by the stars (which is not that long ago). In the wristwatch world they were known for deck watches. This is the watch the watch the navigational officer would set to the ships chronometer then use it when he went out on deck with his sextant to determine the ships position.
They are also known for highly complicated watches Freak series and animated erotic (porno) watches (which does have historical DNA) which Blancpain is also known for. I won't show pictures since I don't want to upset the hamsters but the erotic watch is the correct query.
Kinda cool back in the day since they didn't have a phone and Pornhub a guy could just pull out his pocket watch and crank up some watch porn.

I tried on the green Portugieser chrono when I visited their shop in Miami. Beautiful watch, absolutely worth a look. Plus, and this will depend on location, the people at the IWC shop were the nicest of any of the stores I visited. Walked me and my wife around the store explaining the history of certain pieces, insisted I try on watches that were well out of my price range, and the manager gave me a nice hardcover catalogue when I was heading out.

Why have rolex prices shot up so much? I paid $7800 for my sub last year and it looks like it's selling for at least $11,000 now.

I am partial to the deep red dial but not a daily for most people
I have one of these that I chased a long time because it was a rare limited edition but was rather sad that in the steel it looks like the second picture in the vast majority of situations. And yes at that steep of an angle through the AR coating the gold hands and numbers don't look gold.

Simply demand outstripping supply. Most of the SS professional models are worth 50 to 100% more than retail.
The "impossible to get" idea drives more demand because for some "the flex is worth the squeeze for some" to butcher a phrase.
