This classless, dumbass argument pops up in every thread. We get it, you’re low IQ, low class and use your phone for everything.

Watch threads aren’t for you.

To be fair, the thread is about a company artificially driving up their own market by limited demand for something that technologically is incredibly outdated. Rolex’s are arguably cool only because they limit their market, they aren’t that expensive to create and honestly should lose value but don’t because of reasons already stated. If they lost value they wouldn’t have nearly the machismo they currently due.

Rolex calls the shots and makes the AD ask how high when they say jump. Or they will pull your AD status.

The waitlist is a Rolex thing. The AD wants to sell more watches but Rolex decides the allocation. It may take a month, 3 months, 6 months or a year. It’s a freaking mystery of the universe when yours will arrive.

Hate the game not the AD players.

Good luck!

Pre Covid there were no issues getting a new watch if you had the means.

Point out a time period in history where Rolexes didn’t appreciate in value. I’ll wait.

It also may take a day, it’s completely random and the AD’s rarely know what they’re getting in before it’s shipped to them by Rolex. I showed up at an AD that I have a good relationship with and asked about an Explorer I (124270), by dumb luck they were getting one from Rolex the following day. I saw the AD remove it from the “coffin” that it’s shipped in and walked out the door with it. On a similar note, I stopped in another AD that I don’t have an established relationship with and asked about the same model. They took my info down and I haven’t heard from them (it’s been about a year).

If I want a watch I'm not waiting a year or even six months. If they can't put it in my arm within two weeks I'll pay the gray market tariff. I'm no baller but a few thousand more to enjoy it now vs some indefinite time in the future is a no brainer.

The will never admit it, but I think Rolex saw every brokedick realtor who had one good year and plant/factory operator wearing their products and decided it was hurting their status as the standard in high luxury watches. Thus, they severely cut supply in hopes of weeding out the “undesirables”.

It seems counterintuitive to refuse to sell your product in the face of great demand. But when the prestige of your name means EVERYTHING in your market I guess you do what is necessary to maintain that prestige

Yep. The AD wants some assurance to make sure the customer really wants the watch and is not a flipper.

You have no clue what you’re talking about. It’s like saying wealthy people don’t need life insurance. The wealthy see the value and investment of a good time piece that can be passed down from generation to generation. If you’re a person who says hur dur but I can see the time on my phone, it isn’t for you.

It's not working. Rolex is becoming a brand for douches and clout chasers anyway. If they made it easier for regular people to buy them maybe it wouldn't have happened.

There are a lot of Rolex owners who wear it to flex, but Rolex makes a solid watch and are a heritage brand. A ton of people also respect that. And lol about the “people with money don’t need to show it”, do you think there are brokedicks walking around with Richard Mille’s on their wrist?

My dad has an Explorer II he bought in the seventies for four or five hundred dollars. Serviced once. He was stunned when I told him what they go for now.

It’s the broke dicks that try to speak for the wealthy, like the poster you replied to. I told myself after I established my business and made my first million I’d reward myself with a nice time piece, and 4 years later I did just that. I can pass these watches to my son.

People do the same thing with guns, cars, art. I don’t understand why some needle dicks have such a hard time understanding the concept

Similar experience, told a cousin’s dad what his vintage sub with a creamy tritium dial was selling for. I think he said he bought it for $800.
