Allen Toussaint certainly has more connection to New Orleans than Lee who spent a few nights at Jackson Barracks before shipping out to Veracruz in the Mexican American war. I still hate the fact though that Beauregard's statue was taken down....it was a really good work of art....us Beauregard is a local kid from da Parish, bruh

However, Lee Circle will be still be Lee circle for at least the next couple of generations in terms of name recognition. The city (as usual) fricked this up imho.
Lis or Lys Circle made much more sense. A giant Fleur-de-lis perched on the column would have been linked to the Saints (paid for by them?), a unifier for the city, and linguistically the same.
