To me one of his best lines was in the Godfather after Woltz goe on a diatribe about Johnny Fontaine.

"I'm a great admirer of your work." He did it with a coldness that was so understated but should have been sen by the producer as incredibly ominous.

He really understood the attraction of the Western to American audience, particularly a good Western "Why?, Because it's ours"

"The Apostle" - 1997.

Written, produced, directed, starred, etc.

He could do it all. None finer than Robert Duvall. On Mout Rushmore with Clint Eastwood, Gene Hackman, and Gene Wilder.

We are all travelers in this world. From the sweet grass to the packing house. From birth till death we travel between the eternities.

Top 5 actors of all time. No questions asked. One of my low key favorite movies/roles he had was in John Q. Loved him in that.

RIP Gus.

Sad to see him go. He had such a wide range of acting skills that few today possess. RIP, you did have a heck of a ride.

A true Southern gentleman. Saw him interviewed once and he paid homage to his great commonwealth of Virginia and to Robert E. Lee.

Great book, truly the The Great American Novel.

Duvall traveled to Texas and visited Sammy Baugh at his ranch to pick up his Texas' mannerisms for Lonesome Dove. If you've heard/had heard Sammy, you see the similarities right away.

Duvall said Sammy didn't even know who he was.
