Agreed

Still, its a valid question as to why USACE isnt opening up more bays at Bonnet Carre to keep the Carrolton gauge at 17', as they are federally mandated to do.
Maybe because the Carrollton Gauge is at 16 feet?

And scheduled to go higher.

The models that are used to predict storm surge only has it going to 17' where that guage is. These are much more sophisticated models than what's used for river crest models that are bandied about.
ETA: It's projected to get about as high as it was in 2011.

Opening the Bonnet Carre this late in the game wouldn't have affected the river enough to matter.

I know its already open... my point is why take the chance of the Carrolton gauge going above 17' when its relatively easy to avoid.

Waste of manpower for maybe a half an inch if water

I see OP has promptly disappeared after throwing out asinine information.

I don't think opening the spillway is going to make much of a difference at this point, cowboy

you don't think the levee fails at 24'?
An 8 foot storm surge from a tropical depression (cat 1 at most)?
3 to 5.
High tide will be the issue if the eye is near at that time.
High intensity t storms will track.
Ideally to mobile

We know the river has never been this high this late in the year. We know the levees have had high water on them for 270 days. We don’t know what is about to happen. Why must we test it to the limit? I didn’t hear one remark about entering hurricane season without trying to lower the river as much as possible. “Hope is not a strategy.” I am not an expert, but I don’t think the experts are beyond reproach, especially in this state or in New Orleans.

Find a bridge, jump off of it.

How high would the lake water have to get to backflow the spillway? Theoretically speaking, if a cat 3 was to drive water in the lake, what would happen?

I know for sure the Cats Meow is open tonight.

and morganza has minimal effect on New Orleans, only helps BR area...
I mean that can't be more wrong. Any diverted water upstream would help New Orleans.

How'd you get 60,000? I double checked my math and only getting to 47,000, max.

This happened after they strengthened the levees and La Place etc flooded
