Total bullshite. That's one of the best parts of mardi gras. St. Charles looks incredible decorated in purple green and gold toilet paper every saturday afternoon. Oh well. Mardi gras gets a little more regulated every year. No more enclosed tents either. Hopefully that means you can still have canopy tents.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Council members passed several changes to Carnival rules during the meeting on Thursday (Jan. 30).
All ladders and personal items left on the right-of-way must be removed within four hours after the end of the last parade on that route. Also, they can not be placed four hours or more before the first parade on the route.
Parade-goers will no longer be able to set up enclosed tents along the neutral ground or sidewalk.
For security, enclosed containers including box trucks, cargo vans, campers, etc are not allowed to be within two blocks of the parade routes. They have to be removed at least four hours before and after parades.

Carnival krewes will also no longer be able to throw boxes, single-use plastic bags or paper streamers off floats. If krewe members are caught violating the new rule, they can be pulled off the float.
Pre-packaged bulk throws cannot be thrown or tossed off of floats before being removed from plastic. If the plastic is still on, they must be handed to parade-goers.
People looking to build a structure or stand on a route must attain a permit at least 15 days before the first parade rolls along that route.
The council placed restrictions on the number of “elements” permitted before the first float and between each float.
The term ‘Element’ was defined by the council as, “any marching band, military bands, dance club, walking club, riding club, or dance troupe in a Mardi Gras float parade larger than a group of fifteen participants, not including chaperones, helpers, support vehicles, and public safety vehicles."
The walking parades on Mardi Gras Day are also restricted to the six already existing parades. This regulation was created to eliminate extended parade times, so they can end at a reasonable time.

Meanwhile it’s totally fine for the Mayor to not pay taxes

I thought Tucks had been using biodegradable paper for a while.
Canopy tents suck people put them up just save space and you never see anyone under them. Also, why do you need an enclosed tent at a parade anyway?

Can't wait to see their plan to actually enforce these new regulations.

It certainly isn't toliet paper.

The elements are the best part of most parades.

Liberals and lawyers could suck the fun out of anything

You've had that emergency too?

I had assumed it was biodegradable paper so hopefully that is still allowed. Are there krewes who throw a non degradable paper?

Agree. Hopefully it doesn't mean less bands but less dance krewes. Groups like the Laissez boys and the 610 stompers are great but there are a lot of disposable ones. But their benefit is they all pretty much keep a steady stream of fun music going the entire set of parades.

A bit crazy that it took them this many years to put this into law.

We have brought them out only to be used for elderly, toddlers/babies, or if the forecast shows a pretty high percentage of rain to have some sort of cover in order to wait it out. Beyond that we don’t bring them out.

Every float is going to be overflowing with empty plastic bags. Better get all those beads out of the bag before you throw them and keep all the empty bags.

It'll be a miracle if they actually do anything about it. Putting those tents up is so incredibly selfish. It gets worse as Mardi Gras Day approaches as the neutral ground becomes a wall of tents ladders and structures.

While this sucks, if it frees up the blockages the sewers are dealing with I won’t complain. I live in metairie, but hate seeing Nola flood.

Don't care. I'm too busy marking my area for Endymion.

I don't think the biodegradable toilet paper was the problem. They also put stoppers in the drains now on St. Charles.

Eventually there won't be anything left to throw. We'll only be able to HAND over bottles of water...but, those are single use bottles...probably not even that will be allowed.

Oh I’m sure this will be followed absolutely
