I remember GM saying in an interview years ago that he was afraid to get tested for HIV because he was sure he had it. You can't "beat it" if you are in the dark about your status. Look, anything can kill a person so I'm not trying to paint him with the HIV brush, but if he did have it, it's possible he didn't even know until it was too late.
