Well they got actual control of Bernhard Mechanical by getting the Aunt to sell them
Her stock or enough of it to force the others out.

Hence Bob opening his own.

The rest absolutely. As I said mostly through acquisition.

He wanted to pay in shares of stock, Turner wanted cash or no deal. Shaw definitely needed experienced project management. They ended up having college grads with zero experience but that was for government work

He flew Coach Blanco all over. Being head of LA Dems helped a lot.

Worked at Shaw and ran into him in the elevator. I got the standard “what do you do for me?” question. I guess I had a good answer so he just smiled and said ok. He was known for firing people in those elevators if they didn’t give him an answer he liked.

He was a litigious businessman and sued people over any perceived slight. I know at least 3 people he sued personally because they parted ways with them. I’d never celebrate his death but I know a few people that won’t be shedding any tears over it.

I talked to a couple guys who were in the jet with JB when he went ballistic on a phone call. They said that jet was never so small and their laptop never more important.

Like said before a bunch of folks have probably worked for Shaw and heard the stories.

The amazing thing about it is no matter what he did, now he’s dead and he died relatively early too. All that work and all that money, doesnt mean jack!

Reading these comments…sounds like he made a lot of people miserable on a daily basis too. Sad way to go thru life!

By all accounts, Jim was absolutely brilliant and driven to succeed. Few people get to that position in life and accomplish the things he did without ruffling a few feathers and breaking a few eggs along the way. Love him or not, you’ve got to respect the game.

RIP, Jim.

Never met the man.

Saw him waiting in the driveway on Higjland for his kids to be picked up to school even though he could have been in the office or pulling the executive card.

He paid for me to watch the LSU v Oregon game in Dallas back in whatever year that was.

Fine in my book.
