No one should ever be FORCED to join a union or group simply for holding a certain job.
No one should have a portion of their checks stolen against their will and given to a union simply for holding a certain job.
That is asinine and anyone who supports that is a jackass.

quote:I believe you. Looks like the positions may be extremely menial if you are willing to take a job for $12/hour. A couple of things are bound to happen though.
He's not lying. After the housing crisis Mercedes had 2 huge buy outs and got rid of a third of their workforce. After they rebounded, added 2 new vehicles and doubled production they filled 80 to 90 percent of the new positions with temps and a lot of those temp companies pay $12 an hour. Some do pay 14 to 16 an hour for more skilled workers, but that's still no where close to what a full Mercedes team member makes. It's becoming a big point of contention among the workers because a lot of the temps aren't even worth paying that much and their work quality shows it.
Plus, you guys wouldn't know this but Mercedes is forcing their workers to pay back a portion of their bonus from 2017 claiming they were overpaid, but they aren't showing any proof. There are a lot of problems inside that plant that most people aren't hearing about and a growing number of workers are feeling taken advantage of. I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't a union shop in the next couple of years.
In this economy, it's just a matter of time before Mercedes will be forced to increase wages, due to the fact that they won't be able to hire anyone at the current wages. There is a nursing shortage right now. Nurses right out of school are getting snapped up and put in areas that used to take lots of experience to work i.e. ER and ICU.
I would imagine that Mercedes may be using temp agencies as a way to screen potential employees. You would know better than me, but a good worker with some skill set, that gets a permanent position, I would think would get a substantial raise once hired as a Mercedes employee instead of being a temp agency employee.
I have a friend that owns a security business. He has a very hard time finding competent people with the skill set to install security systems. If he only paid 12/hr, the only people he would be able to hire, would be no-expeirence kids right out of high school.
I own a small business and I do not have a single employee that makes less than $12. In fact, the last person I hired is a 20 y/o single mother who has never held a full-time job. I shudder to think at the thought of what I would get if I paid less.

Right to work in Texas means right to be fired too.
You can be fired without cause or reason

Lots of assumptions on your part.

As it should be.
What company would fire a dependable, hard-working employee that gets along with his co-workers?

You do realize some don't have a choice, don't you?

right to work is useless now for other states who weren't the first.
when there was only a few doing it, there was a windfall for those states, more work and places looking to move there.
Now that there is 20??? being 21st state is going to do nothing for the state.
