I'm not a hypochondriac, but I'll be preemptive with illnesses. I'm a teacher and I absolutely only miss for emergencies. If I'm cruddy and snotty, I'll go get a couple of shots from a doc in the box with a quickness.
That and skin rashes seem to be the majority of my visits.

People go to the regular doctor just as often for BS reasons. A lot of poors show up for every minor ache and pain and sniffle. It's like they have nothing better to do....Instead of turning people away, I wish we could at least charge them for drug seeking. Like if you show up just to try to get some pills, Medicaid shouldn't pay for that.

When doing triage the ER should be able to turn people away and say if they really need a doc to go to a walkin.
Our local ER does this. If it's deemed non-emergency there is a room where they can be taken to see a non-emergency doctor/NP/PA, for which they have to pay at time of service. Or they can go home and see their family doctor the next day.

This right here.

No reason needed to get regular care if you are an illegal immigrant or a Red Neckerson trashy type.

I have been to the ER 3 times in my life:
1)Severely dislocated knee
2)High fever trouble turning neck, with swollen lymph nodes (ended up being mono)
3)Was coughing up bloody mucus (pneumonia)
I feel like most people go for more benign things.

A buddy of mine went because of a "sore" back. I told him he was an idiot.

Certain people use ER because the ER has to treat them. It's the law. They can also get an excuse for missing work cause "I was in th ER" working the system from all angles. Asshats.

Frick urgent Care, they want the entire deductible.
Go to the real ER

As long as the two doctors are in the same specialty and providing the same service, there won't be a difference in cost based on one having a Caribbean education.
Also, regardless if they went to med school in the Caribbean if they are practicing in the U.S. they probably completed a residency program in the U.S., and passed the same board exams as graduates of LSU, Johns Hopkins, Harvard etc., at that point where they went to med school doesn't really matter.

When your child or wife is vomiting and won't eat or drink liquids like pedialite or Gatorade its either urgent care or ER.
For myself if I dehydrate it do anything to me. I've had character building food poisoning and got dehydrated; still here.

An ER doc was at our grill out once and he was telling us about him serving his time at Earl K. Said once he had a lady in her twenties come in because her boyfriend complains that her belly button stank.

WTF?
So what does a doctor do in this situation?

About a year and a half ago I had a spider bite that I let get worse than I should have and ended up having to go to an urgent care. The NP cut through the infection, packed it up and did the whole process.
Not sure if the NP didn't have the heart to tell you or just didn't know, but I guarantee you this wasn't a spider bite. You had an abscess, or boil, or "rizen" as some people like to say. Yes you had an infection, but it wasn't from a spider. People have been published from papers proving that it wasn't a spider bite.

I had an extreme stomach virus a couple years ago that forced me to go to the ER.
Started with waking up in the morning with the hardest I've ever thrown up in my life. Stomach completely filled up with air and made it hard to breathe for a couple minutes.
2 days later and I couldn't hold down more than a quarter cup of water without throwing it up 2 minutes later. Knowing I was serverly dehydrated I went to the ER at 11:00 on a Sunday night.
My nurse was shocked after checking my vitals. Took 4 full I.V bags to get me back to normal.
you shouldn't ever knock someone for playing it safe and seeing a doctor. Knock the people that go to the ER with fake pain to feed their pill addictions

That is interesting. It started off as, what felt like a mosquito bite, but when I would stratch it, it had a sting to it. Earlier that day I was outside and was spraying some insect spray and on the outside of my shop door there were 3 or spiders that ran up the door.. One got on me, but I didn't think much of it. It wasn't until it started to get really bad that I was trying to figure out what it could have been.
At first it looked like a boil, "pop" it and it seemed to get better for a few days then it suddenly got worse than before. The NP asked me if I recall maybe coming across a spider or something... then went on to tell me how he was bitten by a spider then one day in the woods he had to end up cutting the bite, etc.. So I am just assuming that's what it was.
