Ridiculous Reasons People Go To Urgent Care by NYNolaguy1

Our local ER does this. If it's deemed non-emergency there is a room where they can be taken to see a non-emergency doctor/NP/PA, for which they have to pay at time of service. Or they can go home and see their family doctor the next day.
you have to wonder why more places don't do this...

Most people that abuse the ER don't have private health insurance and probably qualify for Medicaid. Hospitals know they can make money off of these patients because of government compensation. The hospital will actually apply for Medicaid on the behalf of uninsured patients.

Maybe if I couldn't stop vomiting to get an antiemetic.

Smoke a joint. It works amazingly well. And makes being sick a lot more bearable. I actually tested it once when I had the flu at my grandma's house, and couldn't smoke freely. If I didn't take a puff every 3 hours, the vomiting and dry heaving would start back up.

Me and my dad went on a lot of "trips to the store" that weekend.

I can't imagine anyone going to an urgent care for any reason outside of why they would go to an actual doctor. It's beneficial for people who are able to take off work because they are open longer hours and for people who get sick on weekends.

I suppose the most ridiculous reason are people that go there when they should go to the ER like a lady who was having a pretty severe allergic reaction to something the one and only time I ever went to an urgent care doctor.

People should be fined for going to the ER for non life threatening issues. That will stop it real fast.

There are dozens of conditions that could be harmless or life threatening yet have identical symptoms, how due you suggest people differentiate which they have before going to the ER?

"if you have a toothache that is caused by infection, the infection itself can possibly be fatal if it’s left untreated."

"Sinus Trouble: Your sinuses are right above your upper teeth. It’s not overly common, but like TMJ, I have seen sinus issues and inflammation that have caused tooth pain."

" Heart Disease/Heart Attack: This is a biggie. Heart disease and heart attacks do list jaw pain/tooth pain as symptom. Again, this does not mean that if you have a toothache you are having a heart attack, but if you do have any kind of history of heart or coronary trouble or risk, you should pay extra attention to how your teeth and jaw feel. Especially if the toothache is accompanied with light-headedness and/or sweating (or any other heart attack symptoms)."

you get sicker FROM the doctor.

Medicine is a joke.

Urgent cares - yuck, do not bring your loved ones to these places.

Dr "Well, lets see, I know that this bug has been going around.... tell you what, take some of this random penicillin derivative --- and if that doesn't work, come pay me again next week." "Did I mention that you have a viral infection and the antibiotics I am prescribing to you will have ZERO impact??" "But your dumb arse came here and expects me to do something..... so what can I do?

PS - I pay OVER $2000 a month for quality health care -- because of dumb fricks wasting everyone's time and money. Thanks dumb fricks! Oh yeah, fatties and ignorant smokers. Can't forget you fricks. A special thanks to all of you really dumb fricks. Why not just put the cigarettes on your extra cheese and grease pizzas and get it over with faster?

PPS - I used to pay $500 for better coverage.... Thanks O'Barry!

I went to one a few years ago because I thought something was bad wrong and it was close. Yep, and hour later they removed my appendix. Was on Saturday and I was back to work on Monday.

I went to the local urgent care this morning. Been fighting a respiratory infection the last couple days. Walked in, was seen within 5 minutes, got a steroid shot in the add and a prescription for oral steroids and an antibiotic and was sent on my way. 8-10 hours later I feel better and didn't have to take off work.
I really don't get people's problem with going to urgent care for minor sickness. The ER should be off limits for things like this bit that's what the urgent care clinics are for.

It never ceases to amaze me what people decide to come to the ER for and wait several hours to be seen.

Last time I'm scrolled down our Ed board (this was around 8pm):

I know I would have better things to do than sit around the ER for that complaint.

I've heard of "patients" going to the ER for runny noses, a basic cold, etc

Because ER's can't refuse to treat someone, regardless of whether or not they have insurance or their ability to pay for services rendered. So the lower class goes to the ER for every little thing because it doesnt cost them anything and they get free meds.
