re: Ride your vehicle till the wheels fall off, or sell it off before it depreciates too far?

I buy a brand new GMC Sierra about every 7 years, normally at close to 100k miles. The old truck gets traded in or sold.

Do a spread sheet comparing a new vehicle and ALL the costs to you old one and figure the cost per mile at current fuel costs.
Include sales tax on a new vehicle, insurance, your annual mileage, new tires needed?, repairs costs per year for the past five years (average).

A 2011? Keep driving it. Take what you would have paid for a payment each month and invest. No brainer. A 2011 is plenty nice, don't buy into what they're selling.

Drive it until you can't. If it starts ending up in the shop a bunch, or it calls for a repair that costs more than it's worth, then dump it and get a new one

When she gets too embarrassed by it, you know what that means.

Until the wheels fall off.

I put a lot of value on having a reliable vehicle so I don't "drive it until the wheels fall off"
Strictly $$$$ keep it

Drive it till the wheels fall off from a financial perspective.

I have often thought about doing that because it seems like it would be the best bargain. Have you ever lost money because it lost a motor or transmission not long after you bought it?
I have a 2010 f150 with 180k. I will keep it for hopefully 3 more years

I like to keep it at least 10+ years. My husband made me get a new car when my second child was born for safety reasons even though nothing was wrong with the car. It was 11 years old and had plenty miles on it.
I hate car notes so that's why I insist on only paying cash and keeping the car for as long as possible.

I never drive a primary vehicle over 100k miles. I usually drive them around 4 years, once it hits 90k miles i trade it in for a new one

I have had great service out of my 3 GMCs so far, although the last one was starting to use oil due to the last gen AFM issue with the 5.3 engine.
I think the key is to buy right and you can maximize value on the trade / sale. I always get 4wd extended or crew cabs withs lots of options. The price hurts a little on the front end but when you go to trade you certainly are glad you have a truck with desirable features.

For the percentage of people saying they keep vehicles forever, new cars sure are flying off the lot and clogging up I10

We are way past that. I have been hit a couple of times as well, minor damage. I pocketed the insurance check. She doesn't like riding with me. We normally take her suv

Ride untill you start having material repair cost or durability concerns
Save notes start buying cars cash (personally not there at all). About to get this one paid off
