Taking our OT baller cruise to Alaska this week. Met an older guy on the ship. He’s a retired professor of some sort. Anyway, he’s a guest lecturer for this cruise line along with some others. He lectured throughout the week on a variety of topics from geography to history of the various points along the way. He gets a free stay and they pay him of course. It’s an all inclusive cruise and that includes him as well. Not a bad gig if you can get it.

There are comedians that work the comedy clubs.

They will get off at a port and another will get on. They trade out who the performers are.

Knew a guy who was a golf pro on a cruise ship. That's got to be a pretty sweet gig.

I met a retired guy in the casinos on a cruise before and he “lived” on the boat. He said it was cheaper than a nursing home. He would switch boats every few months. I definitely don’t think that would be for me but I guess it works for some.

Why does anybody go on a cruise? The cruise ship rooms seem to be even more cramped than a jail cell. And there’s no seasickness in jail, either.

Last cruise we went on they had a retired NASA engineer talking about moon landings and space shuttle development. It was pretty fascinating.

We didn’t attend any lectures, too busy seeing whales, hiking glaciers, rafting through a bald eagle preserve, etc, etc. We met the dude at the bar.

Spent 4 years in AK. Never got on one of the boats or sightseeing trains.

Aunt and Uncle came up and did both though.

That's a pretty sweet deal. Room and board completely covered, you get to travel AND get paid and all for giving a couple of speeches you can just recycle endlessly?

For a retirement job that beats the hell out of being a Walmart greeter.

No one stays in their room on a cruise other than sleeping.

Why would anyone hang out in the room? If you taking a cruise, your room is just a private area to crash at night and take a shite during the day.

On the surface, it sounds great. However, once you take a job doing something, you get to see all of the shitty things about it.

For instance, I know more than one sports journalists that changed their careers because they said it made them dislike sports. Couple of fishing/hunting guides were the same way….said it ruined their hobbies.

Well, yeah. Having to let Mike Vrabel screw you for scoops probably wears on you after a while.
