I waited tables at Ruby Tuesday here in Columbia 25 years ago, I remember 3 basic truths:

1) The closer a party comes in before closing, the less the tip,

2) The messier a party leaves a table, the less the tip, and

3) The more they run your arse, the less the tip.

One night all 3 happened together for a party of 4, they were my only table as we closed the doors and stayed over an hour after. Their check was about $70 and they left me 65 cents for a tip. I was so mad I hurled the change in the parking lot behind them as they were leaving and said apparently they needed it more than I did. I didn't even care if I got fired at that point.

Worked at a Ford dealership about fifteen years ago as an advisor there. Had to tell the owner of a logging business his truck would not run because the engine was sludged up. I try telling this to the guy over the phone, he loses his sh*t all the while cussing me out and saying no way because he takes car of all his vehicles.

In case you guys don't know, pretty much the only way to sludge an engine is to not change the oil.

Guy now proceeds to tell me he will come up there to get his truck and "deal" with me. Next day he comes up to work with 3 other of his employees looking for me and they try surrounding me threatening to beat my a**. Thankfully one of the girls working there called 911 and said one of the guys had a weapon behind his back threatening to kill me.

Cops came in hot and took care of the situation for me. We trespassed the guy and never heard from him again. The only joy I got of the situation was adding a few hundred more to his bill to get his truck out.

I've got to many stories to count, but this was one of the only times in my life I thought I might get my arse beat.

Worked at a small local restaurant in HS as a busboy. Couple left a stack of pennies on the table as their tip. As they walked out, they see me clearing the table and start laughing. I proceed to use my cloth to wipe the table and slam the pennies across the floor (slow day so only 1 other table at the time) then bring the pan to the back. Apparently they filed called in to file a complaint against me about 30 minutes later. Manager suggested I find another job because I'm not cut out for service industry

Worked at Sears and a guy came to the counter to return used underwear for a brand we no longer carried. Had stains, holes, stretch marks... I refused, he demanded a manager. Manager told me I had to take the return, I obliged then told her she has to bag them up and bring them to the back. She gave me I'm the manager speech, I told her if I have to do it I walk out right now (only 1 on the floor for the department). After that, I went and applied at the bank down the street

Worked at a store. Had a store sale of two wrapped pieces of bubblegum for 5 cents. Normal price was three cents per piece. Dude bought one piece and insisted that I charge him 2.5 cents for it. Also had numerous customers who kept their money in their bras.

I don’t treat anyone bad but I damn sure go out of my way to be respectful to restaurant staff. I have on more than one occasion gotten up and left when with a god awful a-hole starts bitching at the staff over little shite. I don’t want people pissing on my food.

I would’ve messed with them by holding up a penny, examining it, then acting like they had left a very rare penny that was worth a lot of money. People are dumb so they wouldn’t have known differently

I worked at Jason's Deli while I was going to school. Most of the sandwiches were served with chips and a pickle spear.
Had one customer who really hated pickles. When he ordered he would demand no pickle, and pickle juice better not even touch anything else on his plate by accident. Well, apparently one of his potato chips had gotten a drop of pickle juice on it and he screamed at me and threw his plate at me. I walked away and told my manager that he better go and deal with him before I kill the SOB.

Was bagging groceries and some Russian lady started yelling at me that I was doing it wrong and starts doing it herself.

Was this in BR? Because there was an old Russian couple (I think the husband was a prof at LSU) who did this ALL THE TIME at the Albertson’s on Perkins.

A friend of mine lived on the same street as them in Kenilworth and said they hated everybody and had an 8-ft fence around their property.

I don't have any horror stories but I swore up and down I was on that old show Boiling Points when working at Brewbacher's in HS

this lady kept asking if we had any 'maters and if the 'maters were fresh and where were the 'maters from and on and on for what seemed like 15 minutes...

Almost verbatim.

I didn’t take his order. I didn’t prepare his food. I just brought it to his table. That job made me hate the general public with a fiery passion.

Worked for a hardware store way back when.

We would get shipments of generators in when hurricanes were heading our way. We had a very specific return policy for generators that were listed at every register, on the receipts, that we verbally told the customers, and we even would attach notes to the boxes the generators came in:

1. You have to have your receipt.
2. You must bring the box the generator came in when you return it.
3. We can only return an unused generator (meaning if you had put gas through it, no return).

Had a guy come in, buy one, asked the cashier the policy, I watched her tell him it. She even pointed to the policy on his receipt. He asked me it when I was helping him load it up, told it to him again. His truck bed was loaded with an assortment of junk. He said we’d have to take it out of the box to load if and wanted me to do it. I told him I can’t due to company policy, so he huffed and puffed and took it out. Made a fuss when I handed him the box and then he took it over and dumped it in our trash can.

Few days later this bastard comes back and says he wants to return the generator and needs me to bring it in. I smell the gas on it and tell him he can’t return it but he says he doesn’t care he’s returning it anyways. So we get it in. He has no receipt, the box is in a dump somewhere, and this thing smells like a BP station and he throws a hissy fit about us not returning it and starts on the typical “we’re racist and blah blah blah”. I stop him and say “sir I’m 3/4ths Cherokee and a quarter Cuban (I’m neither but frick him), I don’t care about your personal racial problems”. He pulls the generator off the counter and damn near wiped my legs out with it and goes to swing at me but our GM yanks his arse and tells him to frick off and don’t come back.

Dude showed up a couple of weeks later claiming we still owed him lumber he purchased or some nonsense and had a lawyer with him. I was heading to lunch but saw our GM laying into this guy and his “lawyer” pointing out the parking lot.

I worked at CC's Coffee House in college. One day we lost power and this lady came in wanting a mochasippi. I apologized about not having power and offered her a coffee or tea (on the house). She said she'd take a latte. I apologized again, explaining to her that the espresso machine needed electricity. She eventually settled on an iced tea and bagel. I then watched her for 5 minutes trying to toast her bagel. I didn't have the heart to explain it to her again. To her credit, she was polite about the whole situation.

Didn’t happen to me but someone I knew was delivering pizza to some run down place. Sketchy guy hands him some cash and he feels something weird on his hand and a bad smell. The guy’s hand and money were covered in shite.

I delivered pizza for papa John’s in Birmingham several years ago. There were several hotels in our delivery area. Magic city classic weekends sucked.
