God I can’t wait to retire. I fricking am sick of the long hours and stress of working. People who claim to be bored in retirement are weird to me.

If you are a man of faith, you could become more involved in your church and spend some time spreading God’s word.
And for your own health, stay active. Don’t get lazy.

I always thought national park ranger would be a great retirement job but I think they’re shitcanning those guys too

Well at 39 years you essentially still get paid close to 100% your salary, right? Work in something you like for 4 years and retire.
Common misunderstanding, federal employees do not get anywhere close to 100 percent. In this case, probably around 40ish percent. Don’t know why some keep thinking that.

First, congrats! Think of it as more time to do all the things you love. Traveling, gardening, hunting, fishing, cooking, volunteering…you name it. If you get really bored, find a little part time job.

You should have a nice nest egg.

Thanks for the correction. My sister retired from the FBI years ago and I thought she said something like that. I may have misunderstood.

Maybe get out and enjoy life? I did the same, my last day at work before starting admin leave is March 7 and, at 65, I’m tired of working and want to enjoy not getting up at the break of day, traveling, just setting my own agenda.

Also you have come to the right place.

Do what you enjoy doing. There’ll be an occasional boring day. That’s ok. You can do what you want when you want.
Make sure you have physical activity every day. I either walk or go to the gym.

You couldn’t come up with the five things you did last week? Elon is a ball buster.
Be honest, did you do anything productive since Covid for work?

I was retired and got into animal rescue fostering animals with a rescue group about 12 years ago. Oddly enough, as I got more familiar with my local animal shelter, they asked me to consider working for them. I certainly didn't do it for the money they pay which is ridiculous. But I knew I was making a huge difference in the lives of animals and I loved that work so much more than anything I did in corporate life that I did not enjoy. I worked for the animal shelter for several years and decided to retire for good four years ago. Find something like that where you're not doing it for the money. Or... an opportunity might find you like it happened to me. I have no regrets and love retirement where I now focus on other things I enjoy. Good luck!
