I mean you never want to burn bridges.. I'm sure word gets around. Miffed employers can just talk bad about you to other people, contacts, networking shite.. who knows. I learned from an early age in my first job at 16 to never burn bridges.
I left Kroger making $5.15/hr. in 10th grade back in 2003/2004 to go to Jersey Mike's to make over $7 - they wanted me to slice meat which was illegal given my age at the time, and Friday nights at Jersey Mike's SUCKED arse. You won't believe the amount of people that kept just wanting more and more mayo slathered on their sandwich
... and always with the bacon. DON'T FORGET THE BACON; bitch, you didn't even give me a chance to go to that side of that counter to get it. Fat arse.
So yeah I went back to Kroger and they accepted me gladly because I didn't just walk out. Was never so happy to go back to $5.20/hr or whatever it was I was making going back.

I fully expect my boss to text me questions when I am gone.. she does have my number.

Had to give 90 days notice at my last job and they held me to every one of them. I was ready to burn that place down by the end
I'd tell them to kiss my arse on the 90 day thing and that 2 weeks is customary
My last job asked me for 30 days and I declined. I gave them 3 weeks because it worked out well for my start date at the new job.

You should send them a departing gift lunch on your last day. 10 boxes of little Caesar's bread sticks with no dipping sauce. They really won't have much to say after that.

It's insane how petty people get. Can see my boss in her office from where I sit, and she won't even look at me. She would usually come in and just talk and shoot the shite with me. Now she's been walking by my door and going to talk to the admin guy in the other suite.

Something about all of this just works.

My wife worked for an absolutely horrible company. Small infusion company that got too big for their britches. Couldn't keep employees, I had enough of how miserable she was and she did too. I said just quit and we will figure it out. They required a 30 day notice as part of the employment contract.
Turned in her notice, they fired her that afternoon. Ended up losing a client over it. Jackasses

See, I enjoy that 2 week period. If I'm leaving a job, its usually because I don't want to be there anymore.
When I left my last job, I just occupied a desk for two weeks. The boss would email me "Did you do this or that today?" My reply was normally "No, I didn't." I was completely checked out, and it was glorious.
What were they going to do? Dock my pay? Fire me?

I've been gone for over 6 months from my previous employer and I still get a call or text at least every other week

Resigning from a job sucks more than most other things, including our vice president. There've been jobs I've hated more than anything but resigning from those jobs was horrible. I hate it and I, too, can't sleep the night before. Glad for you that the hardest part is over with now and just remember to not burn bridges on your way out. Good luck with your new position (assuming you have one).

I actually have a deadline for May 17th, which is when I start my new job. I also put in for leave on May 16th because who the hell wants to be at their old job one day and start a new job the next? I need that day mentally before starting a new gig.
I am going to get as much done on this project through May 13... but other than that I am going to be posting a lot on the OT.

I have had 2 jobs in the past 21 years so when I left my previous employer I'd been there around 10 years. I tried to leave on good terms and be professional but I did tell them my last 3 weeks should be knowledge transfer and documentation only because it wasn't going to benefit them if I worked on projects that nobody else was going to know anything about when I left.

frick that, they dont give you 2 weeks notice you are being laid off or fired so i will only give them the same respect they give me, no notice at all.
like you said, if you give notice, you will be shite on the entire time you are still there, and be made to feel miserable, while getting any crap work they can give you, so why bother putting yourself through it.

Anyone else think it’s strange that we, as employees, are always expected to give two weeks notice .. but it’s acceptable for an employer to just let you go without any notice? Or is it no big deal because ‘that’s the way it is’ ?
It's a ridiculous double standard.

Same. I have access to all core network infrastructure. Despite all trust in me, no way would security protocol allow me to stick around, lest I hide some malicious scripts that randomly reboot core equipment

Thanks, that’s pretty much what i was getting at … we can jump thru all the hoops we want to justify it, but it makes zero sense for the expectation to be so one-sided .
