CENTRAL — A road project that’s been in the works for more than a decade is drawing new frustration from residents in Central.

The Sullivan Road project, which began in 2010, has taken more than 11 years and $11.5 million to complete just a half-mile stretch of roadway. The work recently entered its final phase, but not before removing a traffic light that residents in the Huntley subdivision relied on to get in and out of their neighborhood.

Without the light, residents are now forced to turn right when leaving the subdivision, which they say creates a major inconvenience.

"It’s a real inconvenience, and we’re not happy about it in this subdivision," resident Bobby Harris said. "Going to your left, I don’t really know where you would be able to turn around unless you go all the way to Hopper Road. It’s very inconvenient."

Central Mayor Wade Evans acknowledged the concerns but said the changes are part of the construction process.

"We try to make everybody happy, but it’s almost impossible," Evans said. "They used to have a protected light. They lost that light, and now they will have to take a right only to leave their neighborhood."

Nothing says Louisiana like taking 15 years and counting to widen a 1/2 mile stretch of road at a cost of almost $12 million

Nothing says The Advocate like misspelling a well-known roadway.

***ETA: In my old, feeble brain, WBRZ and The Advocate are synonymous. Not sure if that's still the case, but I still have a bookmark (that does not work) for "2theadvocate.com"

Who ended up taking the blame for the delays?
It had to do with not having the right info for the sewer lines I think

Can they not turn left exiting the neighborhood bc of traffic? When wrecks start do they have any recourse because their light was removed? Seems like a dumb move.

That project has been insane in terms of time it’s taken. It was a cause of celebration just to see them get started on real progress back before the summer

These road projects have got to be money laundering schemes. They make no sense at all.

Some day everyone will understand that a road contractor can make more $$ dragging a project out forever.

Work wasn’t done for years due to the blame game between *I think* Army Corp of Engineers & the parish or the contractor

I rode through there yesterday & didn’t notice the light was gone, traffic is heavy & I’m sure it’s a bitch for them to get out but for the most part people will let them out just like they do around the medical park closer to Hooper

People bitch the roads are bad then bitch when they are inconvenienced due to road work

Why is he talking about going left being inconvenient when losing the light makes them have to turn right? His sentence isn’t a misquote because turning left sends you to Hooper.

I assume he’s coming from the central woods side across the street. It would be turning left that would be an inconvenience and would potentially have to go down toward hooper to turn around. Or go out the other way to wax

If you have to turn left from Central Woods why wouldn’t you just go down to Wax Road? It’s not even out of the way.

The guy quoted is coming from Huntley Ave because he talked about turning left and going to Hooper Road.

What’s going to finish first? Sullivan Road or Juban Road?

My dad lived off wax near magnolia bridge and passed away a few years ago. My maw maw and paw paw lived off of Joor so we went down this stretch often. I remember believing this project surely wouldn't take more than 3 years.

Assuming it’s some sort of misquote or typo, nobody proofreads their work on that website.
