False. The Corps was established in a pub so going to a bar isn't a problem. As long as they weren't wearing Dress Blue Alphas, it's totally fine. Also, lol at the guy trying to clown on Marines and misspelling "thinking".

Damn this hook be shiny

Never wore my uniform off duty if I could help it when I was in. Every now and then I'd have to run by the store or something on my way home when I was in ABUs, but I can't remember a time I ever wore my dress blues off base (except for the last week of basic training in San Antonio when that was the only attire we could wear off base.

No, there's a few occasions military are allowed to wear their uniforms not in connection to their duties and even those that wear parts of their uniforms while grocery shopping are only a tiny fraction as much of a douche you are for starting this thread.

This sounds like something a bunch of old nosey women would say around the coffee pot while gossiping. Seriously.

Is it really that big of a deal to see a reservist in uniform at the store? Maybe he/she is just getting off from the weekend and needs to pick up groceries on the way home.

Hell, the only time Marines are allowed to be in their cammies is on base or in the field. Marines aren't allowed to wear their utility cammies in public.

Now, the other uniforms, while a pretty douchey thing to do, is fair game. Except for dress blue alphas. Have to have permission to wear dress blue alphas.

Eta: My platoon goes out every year in our blues after the Ball. We've never gotten any grief for it from any senior?

How else are they supposed to get military discounts

Kidding but my buddy lived on base because his mom served. He used his base ID everywhere we went in order to get a military discount. Is that douchey?

It's proper to wear a military uniform at a wedding or a funeral especially if the groom/bride/deceased was military. Other than that you will only see off duty in uniform if he/she makes a pit stop on the way home from drill.

When I was in active Marine reserves, long ago, we would wear dress blues when we did color guard duty for a parade or some event. Then we would stick around for a while and have drinks and food. We never went to a bar after the event, just stayed at the event. Maybe these reservists at the bar did color guard duty nearby that had no beer

I'm a reservist and wore my dress blues to my pawpaw's funeral recently...I did 9 years active and have 13 total...cousin is active duty and he wore his as well....pawpaw told us he wanted us to wear them...he was very proud of both of us for serving and gave us both tons of support when we were trying to make that decision to join as young men....so....I couldn't give two fricks what somebody else might think about me wearing my uniform for that man....reservist or not

Not. I haven't worn a uniform to a funeral, but have worn dress uniforms to weddings all the time.

I would urge caution, though. If one is going to get shite faced or engage in activity that would bring ill repute on the service, I would stay incognito. Since the millenials document everything online, their risks go up exponentially.

The funeral thing is a bit more acceptable if still a little weird. When I see junior enlisted rolling around in uni at restaurants and shopping in Baton Rouge I assume it's some reservists/guardsmen looking for a pat on the back.

I've stopped at the grocery store in my uniform on my way home from drill, and have obsolete uniform components that I wear for yard work/hunting. My Gore-Tex woodlands parka is the bomb for duck hunting in the rain.

I'll rock a old parka in the woods or yard work

I'm more reffering to someone in a full duty uniform having drinks at a Mexican restaurant on Friday at noon. Seen it more than once.
