Most of the longer duration rain looks to stay north and east of Kerrville.
Which will send the runoff South right back down to Kerrville.

I know rain by itself doesn’t have much of an effect on L and S bands used with some the satellite services being added to cell phones for specific emergency and messaging functions when no cell or WiFi available, but does the dense storm coverage overhead like with this storm affect getting a connection. That’s also assuming a person would be safe to go stand outside in that storm to try to get connected in the first place.

Nah, this has ended up being a Lampasas River event.

The thing about Albert Pike, and probably Texas hill country, is that they are such cool areas to camp. “Could have been me” is damn near a bannable offense on this site, but for anyone who enjoys outdoor adventures or even just chilling in nature, it could have been you. Caught in a random 500-year event that hasn’t been noted in our pretty short recorded history. Arkansas is saying they will reopen Albert Pike. The danger will always be there, though. I wonder if Texas will close off some of these areas for overnight stays.

Please refrain from making comments such as this if you are unaware of the area’s watershed. Bad info.

Rainfall north and east of Kerrville, Texas primarily flows through the Guadalupe River watershed.
The Guadalupe River's headwaters originate in western Kerr County and converge near Hunt.
Rainfall in areas like Mountain Home and Hunt, even if not directly in Kerrville, can lead to flooding in the city as the water flows downstream into the Guadalupe River.
The Guadalupe River itself flows through Kerrville and eventually empties into San Antonio Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
So, what part of what I said was incorrect, friend,

The part where most of the heavier rain fell in the Lampasas watershed area.
ETA: Which is north and east of Kerrville.

Has anyone heard what exactly caused the girls and two counselors from Bubble Inn to all not make it. I noticed the building is still standing in photos.
Did they try to make a run for it and get caught in the current?

How many are still missing?

Yes, camp director was loading them into vehicle. Some were found with him in vehicle.
After searchers found our local girl late Sunday and identified her by DNA yesterday, there is still one missing Mystic camper.

Thanks for the r explanation.
It’s all so sad.

According to various press conferences yesterday, around 100. Not all of those are fatalities, the number is down from 160 earlier. Reports on missing usually contain some bad information. People also check in who don’t realize they are on the list.
Needless to say, many will never be found. Time is the enemy and it will only get harder to find and identify victims.

There are a lot of unknowns and there were a lot of unknowns that early morning. I don't think, even with the warning, that what happened was expected. I do wonder, though, why the lower cabins with the youngest campers were evacuated earlier. I don't know the logistics or the layout, though.
There was an article I saw this morning with interviews from a mother (who is a lawyer) whose two daughters survived. She has some questions and the family is putting together a timeline of events.

Building fills up, kids get sucked out of the windows on the tail end of the big initial surge.

I’m confused about what you are wondering about.
Those cabins were closest to the river and they got out the earliest. The problem was that the place they were brought up to flooded unexpectedly and in a hurry.
It’s hard for me to wrap my head around also. Even in the slow rising Baton Rouge area floods of 2016 I know some of the evacuation places got flooded and had to relocate. I know a few families who got flooded twice in two places as they tried to move to houses that were supposed to stay dry.

I meant to write that I wondered why the lower cabins with the youngest campers weren't evacuated earlier. I may not understand the layout or timing, but I thought the owner was going to get those girls in those cabins when he was swept away. I thought the timing of that was closer to 4 am, but I may have that wrong. The timing I read this morning was that he got the warning on his phone about 1:14 am and started evacuations about 45 minutes later after assessing the camp.
It wasn't my understanding that the youngest girls were evacuated from their cabins and moved elsewhere to a location that was supposed to stay dry. It's very confusing.

Then the third cabin, Giggle I believe, had vaulted ceiling but they made a run for it or were the ones the Director was scooping up when the surge hit.
Bubble inn was the one that was a total loss of campers and counselors.

I thought the missing girls all came from Bubble and the Twins cabins. I didn't read anything about girls from Giggle as some of the ones found with the owner who was found along with some of the girls in his truck. I guess I'm really confused about the facts.

If you are really interested, there are some accounts in the Texags Outdoor board running thread including one put together by a father based on conversations he had that morning with some of the girls, his kid, and an adult that was involved in the evacuation.

Thanks. The timeline showing the colored sections of the rise in the water gives me chills.
I don't know that I've found the thread by the father.
