For sure. I know what you mean. Unfortunately I've already made up my mind
I'll have to post an update after I finish now

That said, it also provides people with a false sense of "I can do that".

Make some good bars that will fit to use as lever. Longer better

Both of the springs on mine broke about 5 months apart. They make serious noise when they break.
$160 each time and well worth it to not lose fingers.

Nice man. It was easier than I expected

Just had mine replaced about a month ago. I thought about doing it myself but I've never messed with a garage door before so I hired overhead door to do it. 295 for both Springs, and I didn't have to go out and there and try to figure it out for hours.

It's a $150. Just write the check and let somebody else worry about it.

old 15 ft wide heavy all wood door. hired a "pro" to relace the entire bottom panel. he lost control of it and the door came rolling down unsprung. almost killed him. guy gets in his truck and never comes back.

It's easy to do, but any lapse in focus or any little mistake and the outcome is extreme. People get fricked up DIYing that.

Just did this the other day. With my door all the way up, there is hardly any tension on my springs. Easy fix. Took about an hour and a half and most of that was trying to get the door up after my wife messed it up trying to open the damn thing with a broken spring over and over before calling me.

Did it myself about 2 months ago. Was not hard in the least bit and never one time felt unsafe. Use the proper tools and take your time. You'll save a ton of money diy.

I've now replaced all 4 springs and 2 cables on our pair of doors. Just get a neighbor to help you stretch them and put the bolt back in the roller. And make sure if there isn't one already to run a cable inside the spring and attach it at both the wall and the hanger. That way when it snaps it won't go flying across the garage and bust a windshield or kill someone.

Call Chad's Garage Door. They recently replaced my garage door open and did a great job.

I was nearly killed in a garage door spring accident in my younger days, so when one spring broke on the current door, I called someone.
Cost $175 for them to come out and replace the spring... not too bad really.

I was deactivating my garage door to convert my garage to a game room, and I was taking down all the hardware. I started to take off the springs and was literally a few turns away from letting that thing rip when I decided I better check into this. I posted a question on a message board and learned I was seconds away from certain decapitation. What a tragedy that would have been for the OT. Pay a pro to do it.
