Anyone ever have to do this and have any tips? One of the springs broke a few days ago so I get to spend the day replacing them. Seems pretty simple.

You'll loose 2-3 fingers because you don't have the right tools and experience.

Did it myself last year. Got springs off eBay also came with torque bars. Pretty simple. Just be very careful.

Simple != Easy

But I'm not paying someone to do this

Last thing in world I would mess with, easier to hire someone and it's cheap.

Make sure to replace both sides, not just the broken one.

Hire someone to do it.

I would do it carefully. I recently did it on my third car garage

I don't care about the cost to hire someone. I just enjoy doing certain things myself and learning something new.

Definitely doing both. Bought both springs already.

That is one DIY job I would never consider doing.

Honestly I hate hiring people to do things, but this is a job that was worth hiring. I think it was less than two hundred bucks total.

Google and Youtube has allowed the average Joe the ability to see how professionals in their craft do what they do. That said, it also provides people with a false sense of "I can do that".

Hire a professional.

Totally with you on this. I try to do my own work wherever possible but I think I paid $150 for this job last year. Not worth my time/effort with the potential for things to go wrong for that $.
