So someone slammed into the back of our 18 year old car and it needs to be in the body shop for a few weeks. Problem is every rental company I have checked says person has to be at least 21 to drive the rental. He needs transportation for school and work anyone been in the same situation?

I Know he could drive one of our vehicles and we drive the rental but I do not want to do that since I really need my truck for work and the wife car is too new and she doesn't want him driving it to school.

You drive the rental car, he drives your car.

Um this seems like a pretty simple solution. Rent the car, and drive it yoruself

Why would you even need to post this?
How simple can this be?

Rental companies don’t want to rent your 18 year old for the same reason you don’t want him/her to drive your car.

In my car renting days, you could be 18-21 years old and rent for an insurance claim as long as you had full coverage and not liability only. Try Enterprise. There were restrictions on types of vehicles allowed, but you could get a full size car or smaller.

My 18yo son was able to have GEICO set him up with a car from Enterprise when someone backed into his car.

Rent the car in your name with him there and list him as an additional driver. That way junior can drive the rental and not your nice car.

Talk to the at-fault driver's insurance company and see if they can arrange the rental for him since their driver is at-fault or tell them you're getting Gordon

If the other driver was insured tell their adjuster that you need a temporary replacement vehicle and let him make the arrangements for the rental and have it billed direct to them. Don't get directly involved in the rental details; it shouldn't be your problem.

The same thing applies if you have rental coverage on your own policy--let your insurance company make the arrangements.

The insurance companies send a lot of business to car rental companies and it's a lot easier for them to get the rules bent than it is for you.
