For you baws with little baws what does it look like for you? They put out information for us and it's a joke.

quote:

All assessments can only improve a student’s grade. A student’s grade cannot go down during these Remote Learning Days. However, new material will be presented by teachers so that students do not miss out on any more curriculum than they already have due to this situation.

I have a kid with an A average so really what is the point of doing anything? On the other end it's not like the stupid kids (who were likely too lazy to do the work while in school) are going to suddenly decide to put their time in online.

Our state's own idiot version of JBE already tipped his hand that they aren't going back this year. And then I look at the crap the schools are putting up and their "message for the day" is a complete waste of time and data. Their whole Q&A document is written for those little common sense but mostly deals with NHS, graduation, and drivers ed.

Some kids like to learn, and education is a great thing. It can’t hurt to give kids a little educational activities to do since they’re likely going to be home for 5 months with not much else to do.

It's 7:17 and my son is done for the day. I checked his work and it's correct.

He's doing the assignments sent by his teachers all on his on. If he is keeping up with the material and he's only using a half hour a day what's up with the other 7.5 hours.

This is the truth. Honestly, I taught only 4 skills all year. Unfortunately, most of my students still don’t get it.

Seriously?

Maybe take a more proactive role in your child’s education and provide them with more information than the bare minimum? Ya know, maybe take some responsibility and be an actual parent

Well, my son is a senior and last night I read an article that in Alabama seniors who were on track to graduate when this thing started can be “declared” as having graduated by their school board. So for my son, he may be done.

My daughter is a 6th grader so we’re just waiting on her first lessons to be assigned.

From what I understand the State education board has given schools until Friday to submit e-learning lesson plans for approval. Those lessons should be assigned Monday I think.

You don’t understand the point of being a good parent and helping to continue your kid’s education for the semester they’re missing?

Do you ever take an active roll in your kid’s learning?

Hopefully some of those “stupid” kids are hard workers who just need a little help and with some good parental involvement they end up lapping your kid in life.

My five year old is playing on his tablet bc his remote learning takes 10-15. I guess that’s enough where school doesn’t feel like I need to get his tuition back.

If you give teachers an opportunity to not work they're going to take it every time. Even if this thing were scaling down they would be howling about how it is unsafe for the kids to return. There's no financial disincentive for them staying at home, so why push to go back for a 7-8 hour day when you can work from home for 3-4 hours?

That aside, for my first grader all they really do is an online version of homework. She's a good student and enjoys learning, so she's done with everything usually within an hour. I think for older kids it's more involved, but I'm not sure how much so it could be.

I understand that. While I'm sure it benefits the bad students who otherwise would have remained bad students FAR more than the good students, I'm not sure how much you can penalize kids for something over which they had no control (school abruptly ending)

Still waiting on first lessons? That's crazy

edit - not so crazy if one week was for spring break.

Teachers are only teaching my kids 20-30 minutes because they have to grade papers, lesson plans for next year, etc

I’ve been checking her school email for the past week expecting actual lessons since this would have been the week they came back from spring break had this outbreak not happened. So far all she’s getting is her teachers telling her to read books for at least 30 minutes a day.

And her school is top 20 in the State and top 10 in the B’ham metro area.

They do assignments on google classroom and use their apps and games. None of it is required and we are not stressing over it. They do educational things roughly 2 to 3 hours a day...

My Middle Schooler attends a private classical school. They resumed classes online immediately after Spring Break. He has group Zoom meetings at 4 different times during the day. Assignments are electronic, and they have on Omnibus class where they are still able to review/debate. It hasn't been seamless, but it is definitely doable.

He's in private school so it's a really expensive baby sitter. To add to that my wife is a stay at home mom. I'm pretty sure if I weren't here they'd argue 24/7 though.

My kids go to a really good private school so our remote learning has been really good. Teachers have a list of lessons and assignments ready to go every day by 7:30 with interactive software so they can monitor the students' progress.

My oldest takes about 3 hours a day to complete everything; the youngest takes about 90 minutes. There is also optional, enrichment stuff they can do.

The teachers send us videos about three times week updating the kids on how they are doing and showing us the progress of class pets, etc.

It's honestly been really good so far.
