Our standard stops when we come to town, Dorignacs, Casey’s sno-balls, morning call now by city park and “Trashy Dillards”

Also, there is Target.

I love how they built an off ramp from I-10W to the mall that ends in the neighborhood instead of it going to the mall circle road.

And to get back on the interstate, you still have to use Williams.

Only mall in the area that had a Structure, men's version of The Limited. Great clothes there... It's a shame it closed up.

My wife and daughter said it's known as the " Dirty Dillard's".

The Esplanade Mall was forever immortalized in the movie 21 Jump Street during one of the chase scenes.

Christmas time there was the best. We used to take the kids and spend 3 or 4 hours….shopping, eating, listening to the live and piped in music….great times !

I had a bunch of clothes from Structure back in the 90’s. They had an awesome assortment of ties…

Today’s malls have to refer to the success of Lakeside. Constantly renovating and reinvesting in the property, Good food court options, nice lounge areas, upscale tenants, security, restaurants, etc.

The downfall of malls were the ones who tried to maximize profit and kept the 80’s decor because it’s too expensive to renovate. Sears was a perfect example. If someone is going to travel to a mall to shop, they need amenities or they will just do it online. It’s amazing that they could not see the writing on the wall with that mindset.

I used to live at this place. Was devastated when they got rid of all the fountains.

Not altogether true. Lakeside Mall in Metairie, which is only about 5 miles away is doing just fine.

It’s not social media & online shopping that’s killed Esplanade Mall. It’s the demographics that now dominates Kenner that killed Esplanade Mall.

And the mall killed traditional "downtown" shops that were a staple of the 40s-80s.

The opening mall scenes in Runaway Jury were filmed there.

Also, I remember seeing the theatrical release of the Runaway Jury, Jay Hooks of Walton and Johnson fame read the headlines.

But recently, I watched a YouTube version and they replaced Jay’s audio with some other voiceover guy.

This was late 80s through early 90s.. I used to have to go to a doctor in New Orleans every several months for several years (4 or 5 years). I remember we would go here... not after every appointment, but after many of them and it was always a big deal.. I used to love going there.

I have always wondered about that line since Bourbon Street is perpendicular to Esplanade.

That was my mall in high school. When we went to “the mall,” that’s where we went.

Saw American Pie at the old theater there and laughed at all the under 17 kids getting id checked and thrown out. Amazing how mild that movie is now.
