It’s for the best, I’m sure. I mean who wants to get carjacked or shot on the way to play golf?

Maybe the convention center revisits the Top Golf offer now.

I feel like putting TopGolf in downtown New Orleans would have been an absolute cluster frick anyway.

Out by Mardi Gras World, before the Power Plant. Perfect place. Could even have a parking lot. Part of the proposed "River District" Entertainment area.

Beautiful view of the river.

Millions in construction? They haven’t done shite.

Demo’ing the old Picayune building and doing site work could easily be over $1m in work.

Even though the location would’ve been sketch, it had potential to be a cool spot. Convenient to downtown and teeing off with the Superdome in the background. Riverfront would be a better spot for keeping trouble away.

It’s amazing how we allow state and local government the ability to be involved with attracting business to this state, especially with LA’s history of political corruption.

The scenario happens on two different fronts: state tax incentives including employee tax rebates, Quality Jobs benefits, and other tax benefits have strict requirements but must be approved by the Board of Commerce and Industry (joke board) and the governor.

Finally, on the local govt side - these businesses can enter into a cooperative endeavor agreement - aka capital lease contract with the locality. In return, the businesses pay a lease payment that is usually significantly less than annual property taxes.

As you can see here, there are many steps along the way and many govt officials hands that need or have potential to be greased.

I’m not defending this shitshow at all, but there was millions spent on piles and dirt work alone.

It’s embarrassing how the building currently sits.

However, the Topgolf project was shelved amid complaints from the owners of the Drive Shack project, which had the backing of local politicians and Gov. John Bel Edwards.

This is code for Destroya and JBE were squeezing them for kick backs and Top Golf told them to get fricked. With JBE involved I am surprised the one in BR got built.

Hayride blamed JBE for screwing over Joe Jaeger and Driveshack. Said JBE's Convention Center Board wasn't fair to Jaeger with the decision to go with Top Golf.

There was easily a million of work already performed out there. By the time all the environmental stuff, demolition, and dirt work was completed of the site it wouldn’t surprise me if they were a couple million in.

The city needs to get out there and demolish whats currently standing until something can be done with the site.

Embarrassing that a state governor even has an opinion on a cheesy golf range. I’m trying to imagine a larger state’s governor even being bothered with this

How shitty is our state economy when the governor gets involved in the permitting and construction of an indoor golf range.

Example 1 of 100000000 as to why Nola is a fricking shite hole.

Every sane human being saw this outcome coming a mile away.

Yep.

Convenient to downtown

Not really. That site is on the dead-end of Howard Avenue, hemmed in by the AMTRAK railyard and I-10. Very limited access. You can't get to it directly from downtown via the S. Broad overpass, you have to go to Earhart and take S. Dupre to either Euphrosine or Howard Avenue. There IS an upramp right there to the S. Broad overpass, so exiting that site back to downtown is easier than getting there.

That was about the only cool thing about the location, you'd have this view of the dome and skyline in the distance:
