Could you imagine holding an event at a school today with anything remotely labeled "Competition"?

I never won a ribbon like that. All my 1st place ones didn’t have “public school” on them.

Field Day was awesome. St Angela in the late 80's would bus us over to Metairie Playground(as it was known back then) and we'd spend all day there. It was basically a track meet. We ran relays on the track, long jump, high jump, ball toss etc.
Best day of the year back in grammar school

its awesome and way better than our Field Day when I was a kid

The ones I'm familiar with are fund raising events. Probably why it's more prevalent with private schools.

I remember it in the 70’s. Never participated.

The Brothers of the Sacred Heart ran my school. Brother Bernie liked to fish.

Every year I skipped out with permission if I took Brother Bernie fishing that day.

Frick volleyball. We going fishing.

We used to have some great kick ball games. One kid would ultimately always leave crying because he/she would get beamed in the face (we used volleyballs).

I don’t remember a field day but in Jr. High we all got a turn shooting at skeet behind Evergreen Jr. High. That was the highlight of the year. Can’t even imagine the reactions to that kind of thing these days.

That's "hunter's safety" class

My kids took them in middle school just a few years ago
