bullshite, house values rise every year.

Not in all assessment districts. From approx 2015-2020, my assessment district attempted to increase the value of my home by 35% (the oil crash year, they tried to max it out at 10%). During that same period, the assessment district in Southlake (Dallas) raised assessments a total of 5% on nearly every house I looked at.

Fort Bend County sent out the 2022 notices, and claimed my home went up 35% in a single year. They're only permitted to jack it up 10% a year due to state law, but the writing was on the wall.

These property taxes sound like a variable rate mortgage.

I love Alpine. There is a poster that lives there that will chime in from time to time.

MAF is about 2.5 hours from Alpine, no good for OP.

And why a gun to your head?

Vaaler Creek Golf Club is someday for me. The drive is 45 minutes to SA or Austin. Its a beautiful golf course 10 minutes from Blanco. Straight shot to the airport if you fly often

Edit: currently in New Braunfels and I like it but it is getting crowded and they are stacking tract homes all over town so the demographics will be changing

Love Phoenix; sucks from mid-June through the 1st half of September. Good news is you can drive a couple of hours north and be in the 70’s.. if you live living outdoors, that’s your spot.

Tucson is one of the worst cities in America.

Move to Scottsdale.

There are no benefits on your post to moving to Arizona. Arizona is nice, but it’s hot as hell in the summer and it has no career benefits for you or your wife. You’re moving to Texas. Go to Austin or Dallas

If I had the choice to live where I work or fly in, I’d live there personally. Especially since you have such a large area to choose from. How often are your meetings OP? I mean twice a month I’d absolutely live in central Texas and drive. Once a month or less maybe AZ becomes more likely.

Texas is a great state but it’s surrounded by crap for the most part in regards to travel destinations. AZ you’d be a lot closer to everything out west. AZ has nice weather for 6-8 months of the year also and a lot of outdoors activities where you can take advantage of that.

The problem with those, is that they will soon be caught-up in the Austin-Waco melding...it's already happening.

Prices are inflated because people are already doing what you have proposed - Salado, especially. Salado is at least nice, but you couldn't pay me to live in Jarrell. Besides being a tornado magnet, they also seem to be a cookie-cutter community magnet as well judging from what I see when driving through on 35.

Belton might still be a good option...but I would be looking to dump and move in about 10 years as things keep encroaching.

shite, Georgetown was this just a few years ago and then everyone caught on and started moving here - Salado is next in line.

don't like the idea of Tuscon. It's kind of just out there by itself, isolated with no reason for big events to travel through. Reminds me of Albuquerque, which has a dated/decidedly uncool feel for a city its size due to its geographic isolation.

I guess you mean small and isolated. Because every city west of Texas, not in California, is isolated.

The whole state is melding together along the interstates. Houston has already spread up to Conroe and it won't be long until it hits Huntsville. Some of the smaller towns around College Station might fit the bill too.

This is true.

Can't wait to see what the Waco-Austin-San Antonio melt looks like in 20 years.

Does "full of hippies and deep staters like it is now" count as an answer? I left in 98? and it was the same shite, with fewer homeless. Gah, AUS and SAN are worthless if you're whitecollar and not forced to work there. You wanna be a hippie and smoke weed and kayak, just move to Denver.
