Leaving BR this morning heading west.
My wife and i saw a red ball descending rapidly on the south side of interstate in the distance. never heard an explosion.
not hearing anything on the news.
very bright colored red more like a light than fireball.....pretty big and descending fast.
thought a helicopter at fist and maybe ... but went down fast....
anybody else hear of anything.
let the off color comments begin :)

I’ve seen this before over the river in 2007. FIL in a separate vehicle saw it too, and everyone around was slowed down. Never got an explanation.

Sorry... I had a bean burrito and a bud light for breakfast - had to go somewhere other than my shorts. What goes up they say...

It was a flare at the plant.
It wasn't moving. You were moving.
How the hell were you able to type the OP and breathe at the same time?

You sure it wasn't from one of the plants?

flare at plant.!!!!
ok possible... i certainly am familiar with flaring gas at the stacks and know for sure it was not that. also i understand stationary things appearing to move as you do but that would have to be relative to your path and this had a path contrary and math will not support it.
but it did resemble a flare from a flare gun.......just way way up there...and i have never seen a flare gun shot other than in movies
so have no idea how high they go.
yall shooting flares guns off at the plant????

You were not crazy.
Have seen significant fireballs three times in my life. Twice over Baton Rouge about 15 years ago and it was probably going down in the Gulf. And again this past December while in the St. Francisville area. You’ve got to be lucky and be aware of events in the sky. They last no more than 5-10 seconds but are not all that rare. Awesome sight for sure.

it did not appear to be floating down like a flare in the movie...it was way up there and coming down at an angle. and i have no reference for location. it was off in the distance on the horizon... so i suspect it was a lot farther away than i thought.
and then it was just gone?????
and then it was just gone?????

How did it compare to the meteorite vids on YouTube?
Posted on 2/24/20 at 7:31 pm to dagrippa
good suggestion.
i went and looked at a few daytime examples.
pretty sure it was a meteor. it looked like few in the videos.....a small one with just a little tail but the one we saw was more red at the ball with white small tail.

Back when the shuttle was shuttling, it was a rare experience to see it enter the atmosphere on its way to Florida for a morning landing. Man would that thing move. And what a vapor/chem trail that machine would leave.
