One of the issues about the tax. In many states the only way it could get on ballots is the promise of regulating and taxing it. And thats why it passed. Had it just been legalized with no or few regs then most states never pass it.

So like any newer industry it will weed out the weak ones. One also has to look at states having it approved early on they had the market cornered. But as ajoining states passed it those who traveled stopped doing so. I wonder if the study looked at how newer legalized states are doing compared to older legalized ones. The newer states siphoned off the margins of older states.

The taxes likey won’t go away as voters have it in the approved bills. And states use it to create the inspection and compliance industry.

I will say, if I were to buy any it would be through a legit company having been liscensed and through state audits. The extra cost would give me more quality assurance, so would be worth it.

I'm in my 30s, quit fooling with that shite in my 20s. Couldn't care less if the market collapses.

So does this mean that now there won't be a vape shop on every corner now?

Surprise, it’s not the cash cow states thought it would be. They think there’s no limit on the taxes that can be levied. Turns out government still doesn’t understand basic economics.

You’re misunderstanding the story.

The government is getting theirs regardless, but companies aren’t able to turn a profit.

So, legalization doesn’t work, or this is another lesson in “ the government can frick up a one-car funeral procession”?

Correct me if I’m wrong but the goverment isn’t involved yet as its illegal. I assume you mean state governments? Now, if the feds ever legalize it then expect a huge tax. On top of state taxes.

Yes like the article says it’s patchwork at the state level. I think the feds cause banking problems for weed companies.

There's no incentive to sell legally. Taxes range from too high to aggressively outrageous. Why would a consumer pay those taxes when they can purchase weed that's just as good from a dealer on the street? These dealers can often operate in broad daylight and just as safely as a dispensary, because they are smart enough to carry just little enough on their person to not be eligible for arrest for dealing.

These morons thought they were on to something by taxing the crap out of weed and "decriminalizing" possession, when all they were really doing is making it easier for street dealers to skirt the law.

Those businesses have to report taxes to the IRS just like everyone else.

From seeing it first hand.

On the streets of NYC and Portland just this year. Police will not get after someone who is selling weed because it's pointless. DAs wouldn't prosecute for that even if they performed the arrest. It's a waste of the officer's time to even try.

It's the very picture of Democrats voting themselves into a lawless society.

Tell us about the cannabis laws the founding fathers wanted us to have? None you say were they lawless or did we concoct some bullshite legislation along the way, that people have finally grown tired of?

The only outcome would be ridiculous government regulations which would drive people to illegal prostitution.

Were the same regulations in place last year when the industry was almost double what it is currently at?

Also, why didn’t the alcohol industry tank when it was made legal after prohibition and lead people to find illegal alcohol?
